Cardiovascular disease causes 30%25 of all early deaths in New Zealand. The Christchurch Heart Institute is working to reduce this through research into improved diagnosis, better prediction, advanced treatments for heart disease performed in Canterbury and engagement with Māori who are particularly vulnerable to cardiovascular disease.

The Christchurch Heart Institute employs 35 to 40 experts in cardiology, genetics, biochemistry and physiology. It is the only integrated 'bench to bedside to community' cardiovascular research group in New Zealand. Our research focuses on discovering and implementing new blood tests for heart disease diagnosis and treatment, developing new methods for treating heart failure and improving outcomes and understanding the genetics of heart disease to help explain why heart disease runs in families.

The role | Te mahi

As a Clinical Research Nurse/Coordinator you will have the opportunity to work with a world leading clinical research team in a stimulating environment. You will coordinate the clinical, laboratory, administrative, data and statistical requirements of investigator-led, collaborative and commercial research projects undertaken by the Christchurch Heart Institute (CHI).

Other tasks:
•    Practice professionally and in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations, CHI protocols, SOPs, research governance and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) requirements.
•    Explain study requirements, risks and benefits to participants and obtain written informed consent before any study procedures.
•    Recruit and support participants to meet study targets and ensure study visits, follow-up and procedures are completed within agreed timeframes.
•    Provide appropriate information, education and support to participants, family/whānau and carers, and remain accessible for study-related clinical and information requirements.
•    Coordinate research activities with investigators, health professionals, primary care and other relevant services.
•    Monitor and report screening, recruitment, study progress and participant outcomes as required.

Your skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

Our preferred candidate will have a degree in a scientific or nursing discipline with relevant experience and excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with strong organisational, time management and prioritisation skills.

Other skills include:
•    Relevant degree and current practising certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
•    High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in data management.
•    Competent computer skills, including databases, spreadsheets, word processing and relevant health information systems.
•    Adaptability to changing priorities, projects and working requirements.
•    Ability to establish effective professional relationships with participants, whānau, colleagues and external stakeholders.

This is a full time (37.5 hours), fixed term position for 12 months, located in Ōtautahi, Christchurch.

Depending on skills and requirements, the appointment range for a Clinical Research Nurse is $84,147 to $106,319 per annum. For a Clinical Research Coordinator role is $75,631 to $80,503 per annum. Top of the range is $88,750.
