Planner/Scheduler

The Production Planner/Scheduler is responsible for creating, maintaining, and communicating production schedules that support accurate customer delivery dates and efficient use of manufacturing capacity. This role uses the scheduling system in the ERP system to review new orders, plan capacity, identify material constraints, release work to production, and coordinate priorities with Purchasing, Planning, Engineering, Production, and Service. This position is based in Niles, IL and reports to the Master Scheduler.

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Order Setup and ERP Maintenance

Review customer orders and create new job orders in the Made2Manage ERP system.

Load standard bills of materials as required and understand bill of material structures.

Create estimates and establish operation routings for engineered-to-order jobs.

Create internal orders as needed.

• Capacity Planning and Scheduling

Capacity plan new orders against the current production schedule.

Schedule capacity based on customer delivery dates, expedite requests, late orders, and production priorities.

Review capacity loading and communicate the need for overtime for production to stay on schedule.

• Production Release Coordination

Stage standard, pre-engineered orders for release by the Planning department.

Stage engineered-to-order jobs received from the Engineering department.

Provide drawings, manuals, job travelers, and pick lists to Production as part of daily releases.

Review release requests from supervisors and confirm schedule readiness before work is released to production.

• Material and Inventory Review

Review material constraints on new orders and advise the Purchasing/Planning Manager of any issues that may affect schedule or delivery.

Maintain finished goods and subassembly stocking levels as required.

• Engineering, Service, and Repair Order Support

Review operation routing performance before quarterly cost rolls and recommend changes when needed.

Schedule repair orders in the system so they do not negatively impact customer orders for new equipment.

Create job orders for service repairs and startups as requested.

Perform other duties as assigned or as the situation indicates.

• Communication and Escalation

Communicate material constraints on new orders before customer delivery dates are acknowledged.

Communicate shortages of critical-path items that may affect scheduled delivery of customer orders.

Coordinate with Engineering on new orders and required release dates for Production.

Notify Engineering when release dates are at risk or have been missed and coordinate next steps to support the production schedule.

Communicate with supervisors regarding documents included in production packets by Planning.

Requirements

• Experience in production planning, scheduling, materials planning, or a related manufacturing role is a must
• Associate degree in relevant field, Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
• Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems; Made2Mange and SAP experience is a plus 
• Ability to read and interpret bills of materials, routings, production schedules, job travelers, and related manufacturing documentation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong communication, prioritization, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
