Director of Radiology
JOB TITLE: Radiology Director DEPARTMENT: Imaging Services
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Responsible to: Chief Operating Officer
Responsible for: Radiology Technologist
Interrelationships: Works cooperatively with department staff, all hospital
Departments and the Medical Staff.
JOB SUMMARY:
Manages the Radiological Department, establishes policies, procedures, standards, and objectives for the provision of radiological services.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Previous experience as a Radiological Technologist
Education: Graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology
Req. Cert./ Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic
Registration: Technology
Registered by the State of Kansas to take Radiographs
Maintains CEU’s as per state of Kansas and the ARRT
CPR certified
Job Duties:
- Selects, trains/orients and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions, if appropriate.
- Develops department goals and objectives, and establishes and implements policies and procedures for department operation.
- Develops department operating budget and ensures that department operates within budget.
- Directs the preparation and maintenance of department reports.
- Ensures the delivery of quality services in areas of operation. Acts as an educational resource and is available for consultation to medical, nursing, and administrative staff.
- Establishes and maintains communication within the hospital. Develops relationships with professional affiliations and others as is appropriate.
- Oversees new testing procedures and related protocol. Encourages and approves introduction and demonstration of new techniques, equipment, etc.
- Directs maintenance of department facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff.
- Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports and other such reports.
- Performs radiographic examinations
- Obtains pertinent history, answers patient questions and explains procedures.
- Assists in inventory control and ordering supplies
- Selects and operates equipment as directed.
- Maintains x-ray and other equipment in efficient operating order; performs preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contacts outside services for major malfunctions.
- Reviews and evaluates completed test for quality, completeness, and type of test ordered; ensures quality images.
- Develops film including evaluating film for technical quality.
- Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work area.
- Transports patients to radiographic room; prepares and maintains room.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
