About the Role

SUMMARY: Senior Services is responsible for providing and overseeing a comprehensive range of programs and support that promote the health, safety, independence, dignity, and well-being of older adults. This position provides leadership and oversight of senior-focused programs and community services, ensuring that older residents have access to essential resources, supportive services, benefits, and opportunities that enable them to remain active and engaged in their communities. This position is responsible for achieving measurable outcomes that enhance the quality of life for older adults, with particular focus on supporting vulnerable seniors, promoting independence, preventing isolation and neglect, and connecting residents to the services and resources they need to age safely and successfully in their communities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: including, but not limited to the following: 

  • Lead the Municipality's senior services program and serve as a primary municipal resource for older adults and their families.
  • Prepare and submit required monthly reports to the County, ensuring all information is accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Develop, plan, and coordinate events and transportation schedules for senior residents, ensuring access to community activities and outings, including grocery shopping, movies, parks, recreational programs, and other local events.
  • Responsible for researching and gathering information on available grant opportunities
  • Schedule and coordinate NJ Transit Community Bus runs for special events and community activities.
  • Create, coordinate, and publish the monthly community/senior calendar for town residents, ensuring events, programs, and important community information are accurate and up to date.
  • Organize and coordinate senior luncheons, holiday celebrations, community gatherings, and special events.
  • Overseeing daily operations of meal distribution of the Meals on Wheels Programs. 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date senior citizen contact and participation lists.
  • Coordinate monthly senior recreational programs, including bingo and other activities.
  • Serve as a SHIP Counselor, providing seniors and eligible residents with objective information and assistance regarding Medicare, health insurance options, benefits, and related programs.
  • Maintain relationships with senior centers, county agencies, healthcare organizations, nonprofit organizations, and other partners serving older adults.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in human services, senior services, community services, public administration, or a closely related field, including supervisory or management experience.
  • Must have a valid New Jersey driver’s license, free from any convictions for the last three (3) years.
  • Must be a licensed/commissioned Notary Public in good standing.
  • Strong organization skills, accuracy, and attention to details.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with high-level officials and all staff,
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with residents, municipal officials, employees, community organizations, and outside agencies.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access; knowledgeable in other database systems. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.

The employee will frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the workplace. The position may also require travel to other Town buildings or locations as needed to perform job-related duties. The employee must be able to communicate effectively through speaking and hearing and perform tasks requiring close visual acuity. The position may occasionally require lifting and/or moving items weighing up to 10 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee works primarily in a professional office environment, where the noise level is generally moderate. The position may also require regular travel to various municipal facilities and community locations to conduct programs, attend meetings, meet with residents, and perform other departmental duties.
