Outdoor Education Instructor (Far North Queensland program)

Carey is seeking a passionate and experienced Outdoor Education Instructor to join the Zero Program team in Far North Queensland in 2026. Reporting to the Head of Zero, the Instructor plays a key role in delivering Carey’s distinctive Year 10 Zero Program in Far North Queensland. Supporting the integration of outdoor education, wellbeing, and Carey’s values, the role helps create engaging, real-world learning experiences that foster student connection, resilience, personal growth, and a sense of belonging.

This position is based in Kew during Terms 1 and 4, and Far North Queensland during Terms 2 and 3.

About the program: 

Carey’s Zero Program is a unique Year 10 experience that combines academic learning, wellbeing, and real-world exploration. As part of the program, students undertake a three-week journey through Far North Queensland, exploring the Great Barrier Reef, engaging in conservation initiatives at the Australian Wildlife Conservancy’s Mt Zero property, and learning from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures through immersive experiences.

The role:

• Liaise with the Zero team regarding details the program including but not limited to management and documentation of students, incident and first aid.
• Work collaboratively with Deputy Head of Zero - Programming to manage equipment and program resources, including repairs, maintenance, ordering and sourcing.
• Preparation and packing of gear and equipment for specific programs.
• Safely lead group through the program.
• Support the wellbeing of students & staff.
   

What do I need to succeed?

• Recognised Outdoor Education qualifications or equivalent (eg. Experience) in specific and appropriate activities
• Current manual Drivers Licence
• A passion for sustainable practices and conservation
• A proactive team player with attention for detail
• Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Suite programs
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with various stakeholders

A valid Working with Children Check is a requirement of employment in this position.
