St. Louis Public Library’s Buder Branch is seeking a Teen Specialist. Our ideal candidate is someone who will connect the community to our resources to further our primary mission as a customer-centered public library providing vital services to the people of St. Louis.

This position is responsible for developing and implementing engaging teen programs that respond to community needs, representing the Library through outreach, and ensuring all young people have a positive experience at the Library.   

In this role you will:

• Ensure that teens, children, and caregivers who visit the Library feel welcome and find resources that meet their needs. 

• Develop and implement engaging programs for youth, especially teens,  including arts programs, STEM programs, video gaming, and more. 

• Implement and shape key Library initiatives that impact teens and youth, including our STL Summer Adventure reading program and teen volunteer program.

• Provide circulation assistance, including checkouts and card applications, and assist customers utilizing Library equipment.

• Establish and maintain working relations with schools and other community organizations to promote library services to students, teachers and parents.

You will need to be:

• Committed to serving St. Louis Public Library’s diverse customer base and developing your own cultural awareness.

• Friendly, outgoing, and excited to work with teens. 

• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.

• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

You will need to have:

• At least one year of experience working with youth in a professional setting, or a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Education, or related field.

• Strong communication, writing, and speaking skills

• Strong technical skills, comfort with operating video game systems, and an understanding of how technology can be incorporated into learning opportunities

• Access to reliable transportation for outreach and other job duties.

Schedule

Mon  8:40-5:10; Tues 8:40-5:10; Wed 11:40-8:10, Thur 11:40 - 8:10, Alternating Fri & Sat 8:40-5:10. One Sunday 12:55-5:10 every six weeks.  Hours are subject to change.  

About Buder Library:

 ● Originally built in 1922. Buder Library has moved twice since its original location.

 ● Housed in a large building with 4 levels totaling 40,000 square feet 

● Collection size is 80,000 items (includes juvenile and adult materials)

 ● 4 meeting rooms (one auditorium, one community room, one smaller conference room, and a multipurpose room) 

About the neighborhood: Buder is part of St. Louis Hills, a dynamic and busy neighborhood situated in the southwest area of St. Louis. In 2023, Buder celebrated its 25-year anniversary at Hampton Ave and Sutherland Ave, surrounded by a thriving retail and restaurant scene. The neighborhood has a large number of families with young children, an increasingly multicultural population and an active senior population
