About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Embedded Engineer II to join our Thermal Solutions engineering team. The candidate will contribute to the design, development, integration, testing, and maintenance of embedded software for thermal control products, including Burner Control Systems, Combustion Controllers, Flame Scanners, Flame Safeguard Systems, Ignition Controls, and associated industrial combustion solutions.
The ideal candidate will possess strong embedded software development skills along with a good understanding of combustion and burner management systems used in industrial and commercial thermal applications.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware using C/C++ for Thermal portfolio products.
- Develop software for Burner Management Systems (BMS), Combustion Controllers, Flame Monitoring Systems, and related control platforms.
- Participate in requirements analysis, software architecture, design reviews, implementation, and verification activities.
- Work closely with systems, hardware, safety, and product engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Perform debugging, root cause analysis, and issue resolution for field and product defects.
- Integrate software with sensors, actuators, flame detection devices, ignition modules, and communication interfaces.
- Support product validation, certification, and compliance activities.
- Contribute to software quality improvements through code reviews, static analysis, unit testing, and automation.
- Prepare technical documentation, design specifications, and test reports.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams on feature development and product enhancements.
Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Embedded C programming.
- Experience with microcontroller-based system development.
- Knowledge of RTOS concepts including tasks, scheduling, semaphores, queues, and synchronization mechanisms.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using JTAG, Trace, and embedded debugging tools.
- Experience with communication protocols:
- UART
- SPI
- I2C
- Modbus (preferred)
- Understanding of hardware-software interaction and device driver development.
- Familiarity with software configuration management tools such as Git.
Domain Knowledge:
Candidates should have knowledge or exposure to one or more of the following:
- Burner Management Systems (BMS)
- Combustion Control Systems
- Flame Detection Technologies
- Flame Scanners (UV, IR, Visible Spectrum)
- Ignition and Safety Controllers
- Industrial Burners
- Thermal Process Control Systems
- Boilers, Furnaces and Process Heating Applications
- Industrial Safety Standards related to combustion control
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of combustion principles and burner operation.
- Understanding of control systems and closed-loop control algorithms.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols.
- Knowledge of IEC 61508 Functional Safety concepts.
- Familiarity with Model-Based Design tools.
- Exposure to Embedded Linux environments.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
- Python scripting or test automation experience.
Qualifications
Educational Qualification:
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in:
- Electronics & Communication Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Instrumentation Engineering
- Computer Science / Embedded Systems
- Related Engineering Discipline
Experience:
- 3 to 6 years of experience in Embedded Software Development.
- Prior experience in Thermal, Combustion, Burner Controls, Industrial Automation, Process Control, or Safety-Critical Systems is highly desirable
