Rosie’s Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity, and find security in their lives.
Over the years, we have become much more than a shelter. We are a multi-service community center that not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for thousands of women a year through wide-ranging support, housing, and education services. Rosie’s Place relies on the generous support of individuals, foundations, and corporations and does not accept any city, state or federal funding.
OPPORTUNITY
Rosie’s Place is looking for a Grant Writer to join the Development team. Reporting to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Grant Writer will help research, identify, and solicit new and current funding sources for Rosie’s Place. They will develop persuasive proposals and other materials for cultivation and mid-level funder stewardship. The Grant Writer will work with program staff on grant implementation and reporting. A successful candidate will have excellent writing and communications skills, an ability to work independently, and a creative interest in developing and testing strategies for securing new funding.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write and edit persuasive requests for funding and other materials designed for Corp/Found audiences, such as reports, supporting documents, and informal updates.
- Solicit and cultivate an assigned portfolio of mid-level corp/found donors, assuming primary responsibility for stewardship and retention.
- Provide input on funder strategy and complete other related tasks to achieve Corp/Found and Development goals.
- Conduct research to inform request strategies, identify opportunities, and screen prospects.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of priority programmatic areas and initiatives within Rosie’s Place.
- In collaboration with the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations, participate in site visits, donor calls, meetings with foundation leadership, and other cultivation activities designed for current funders and prospects.
- Engage senior leadership and program staff at Rosie’s Place to lead post-award, grant implementation meetings and develop reports.
- Maintain up-to-date records in Raiser’s Edge/NXT.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.

- Strong commitment to social justice and the mission of Rosie’s Place.
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills gained from work experience or a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, Communication, or English.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in fundraising, preferably with direct donor contact and grant requests preferred.
- Brings curiosity and strategic thinking to prospect research, donor strategies, cultivation, and writing for donors.
- Able to work independently and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines at once.
- Strong organizational and planning skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with donor data management systems; knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred.
- Flexible team player with a positive attitude.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The starting salary range for this position is $60,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience.

WORK EXPECTATIONS
We are a hands-on team and seek employees who are passionate about our work and service to our community. The Grant Writer is a full-time, exempt position. While the Grant Writer is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, they must work on-site at Rosie’s Place during part of their work week and engage regularly with staff and funders. They are also expected to be flexible with their in-person days to participate in organization events and other work obligations. This position may require travel between Rosie’s Place facilities and community locations.
We adopt safety protocols related to public health as we understand them, which all employees must follow. Among these protocols, we require all employees to be up to date with their yearly vaccinations. Requests for exemptions are considered.??
