We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Part-Time Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) (20 hours per week) to join our Home Health team. In this rewarding role, you will work under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to provide skilled therapy services that help patients improve mobility, strength, balance, safety, and independence in their own homes.

As a PTA, you'll play a vital role in helping patients regain strength, confidence, and function while supporting their ability to remain safely at home. You'll provide hands-on therapy interventions, implement individualized treatment plans, and educate patients and caregivers to support recovery and maximize independence. Through one-on-one care and close collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, you'll build meaningful relationships, celebrate patient progress, and make a lasting impact on quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide physical therapy treatments and interventions as outlined in the plan of care established by the Physical Therapist.  
• Assist patients in improving strength, balance, mobility, endurance, coordination, and functional independence.  
• Observe, document, and report patient responses to treatment and changes in condition.  
• Communicate regularly with the supervising Physical Therapist regarding patient progress and treatment effectiveness.  
• Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, safety techniques, fall prevention strategies, and use of assistive devices.  
• Assist patients in achieving established functional goals and maximizing independence in daily activities.  
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.  
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
• Participate in case conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings as needed.  
• Ensure compliance with all agency policies, Medicare regulations, and professional practice standards.

Requirements

• Licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant by the state of Iowa; graduate from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant education program (PTA). 
• One year of healthcare experience preferred. Home health care experience preferred. 
• Demonstrates leadership and decision making abilities through effective interpersonal skills, knowledge of current and future home health trends, and adhering to ethics, standards, and the support of agency policies and procedures.  
• Car, driver's license and adequate insurance as outlined in the personnel policies is required.  
• All offers of employment are conditioned upon the result of a criminal background check conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, as required by law.
• Negative finding on the Office of Inspector General’s Excluded Provider List.  

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:   

• Employee will demonstrate expertise in defined specialty area, ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.  
• Demonstrate competence in professional decision-making skills within PTA scope of practice. 
• Able to use technology effectively and appropriately, including client care equipment, I-Pad and communication devices (smart phones, voicemail, and electronic mail).   
• Able to type with accurace and account for all record updates in EMR
• Demonstrates organizational skills necessary to manage workload and productivity expectations.  
• Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality in all matters, including employee information, client information and agency matters.  
• Demonstrate initiative in recognizing unmet needs and assuring a timely and appropriate response.
• Assimilate and utilize agency information regarding policy and procedure changes.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT: 

• Performs duties in both inside and outside environmental conditions.  
• Visits are conducted in patient homes with atmospheric conditions – fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, or smoking.  
• Ambient noise level is generally low but can flex.  
• The driving requirements include in-town and highway driving in good and inclement weather. 
• Performs duties to communicate with team and document work in client home using IPad / Iphone . 

PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE DEMANDS: to successfully perform the essential functions in this job 

• Able to sit in a car and commute for periods of time
• Physical demands of climbing up/down stairs, walking, hearing, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, grasping, lifting, talking. 
• Use hands to operate vehicle, office equipment and perform care plan related tasks with patient(s).
• Lift, push, pull and/or move up to 35 pounds regularly; 50 lbs occasionally.
• Vision: with or without corrective aids, include up close, distance and peripheral vision with ability to adjust focus. Requires visual acuity to operate motor vehicle, view electronic devises (I-phone, I-Pad, computer terminal) reading data and figures, visual inspection of patients.
• Regularly required to talk and hear, with or without corrective aids.
• Fine motor coordination/dexterity to grasp,use equipment for client care, computer and smart phone 
• Cognitive ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization, interpret instructions, document visits and effectively communicate with team and patient(s).
