Position Summary

The Regulatory & Nutrition Compliance Specialist is a full-time, on-site role located in the Greater Boston area. This role manages our nutrition database, product formulations, label verification, K-12 school nutrition compliance, and regulatory documentation. You'll work cross-functionally with R&D, Quality Assurance, Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, Operations, customers, brokers, and suppliers to ensure our products and product information meet FDA, USDA/FNS, labeling, allergen, and customer requirements.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and analytical, and can turn regulatory requirements into practical guidance for internal teams and customers.

Key Responsibilities

Nutrition Database & Formulation Management (ESHA)

• Build and maintain  product formulations, recipes, ingredients, and raw materials in ESHA,  including accurate ingredient percentages and yields
• Review supplier specifications and nutrition documentation before entering ingredient data
• Generate, review, and update Nutrition Facts Panels after formulation, ingredient, or supplier changes, verifying serving sizes, rounding, and declaration requirements
• Troubleshoot formulation and nutrition discrepancies and maintain supporting documentation

Ingredient, Allergen & Label Review

• Develop and review      ingredient statements, sub-ingredient declarations, ingredient order by weight, and allergen "Contains" statements
• Evaluate formulation and ingredient changes for regulatory and labeling impact
• Review new and revised labels and proofs against verification checklists, including product name, net quantity, Nutrition Facts, manufacturer information, kosher symbols, bioengineered disclosures, Prop 65 warnings, and GTIN/UPC
• Coordinate corrections with Sales, Marketing, QA, R&D, customers, and printers, then approve labels prior to printing and maintain review records

K-12 & School Nutrition Compliance

• Calculate grain oz  equivalents and Meat/Meat Alternate crediting
• Review formulations for meal-pattern and Smart Snacks compliance
• Prepare Product  Formulation Statements and related school nutrition documentation
• Review Buy American requirements and supporting documentation
• Stay current on USDA/FNS guidance and School Nutrition Association (SNA) resources, and answer customer and broker questions on K-12 compliance

Product Fact Sheets & Claims Substantiation

• Create and maintain Product Fact Sheets, keeping them consistent with approved formulas, ESHA records, labels, and current regulations
• Review nutrient-content,  protein (including PDCAAS), fiber, and whole-grain claims, as well as front-of-package and marketing language
• Maintain documentation  supporting regulatory, nutrition, and marketing claims

Customer & Cross-Functional Support

• Answer regulatory and  technical questions from customers, brokers, and internal teams
• Join customer calls on formulations, labels, nutrition, allergens, claims, and K-12 requirements
• Complete customer regulatory questionnaires and product information requests
• Investigate and resolve labeling and compliance issues

Regulatory Research & Monitoring

• Monitor FDA and customer-specific requirements affecting labeling, ingredients, nutrition, and claims, including Prop 65 and customer-banned ingredient lists
• Research and interpret regulations, then communicate their practical impact to R&D, QA, Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, and Production

Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Regulatory Affairs, Dietetics, or a related field  preferred
• Experience in food  labeling, nutrition, regulatory compliance, product development, or a  related food industry function
• Experience with ESHA or comparable nutrition analysis software required
• Knowledge of FDA  labeling and nutrition requirements; USDA/FNS and K-12 school nutrition  knowledge preferred
• Familiarity with ingredient statements, allergen labeling, Nutrition Facts Panels, nutrient-content claims, and product specifications
• Strong analytical and research skills, with excellent attention to detail across formulas,  labels, and specifications
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a cross-functional environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft  Office, especially Excel and Word

Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: Minimum $90k - Maximum $125k based on experience
