About The Company
Our company manufactures sliced and rotary hardwood veneer. We were founded in 1914 by George E. Tomlinson, the great-grand father of our current owners. Until Mr. Tomlinson’s death in 1953, the company (called The George E. Tomlinson Co. at the time) manufactured hardwood lumber, tobacco hogsheads and Tomlinson Takedown banquet tables. Following Mr. Tomlinson’s death in 1953 his grandson, Gene Freeman, took over the business and expanded the company by adding the export of walnut veneer logs and then building his own hardwood sliced veneer production facility in 1967. In 1982 Mr. Freeman’s two sons, Reid and George Freeman, joined the business. In 1990 a rotary veneer operation was added. Throughout the past 25 years, the company has constantly reinvested back into its operations and has now expanded to encompass a 44 acres site with over 6 acres under roof.
Our products are sold throughout the United States and to customers in over 20 other countries. Typical customers are manufacturers of office furniture, doors, 4x8 panel producers, kitchen cabinet and residential furniture manufacturers, as well as sales to custom millwork businesses. In addition, our rotary veneer products can be found in engineered flooring for most of the major manufacturers.
About the Role
Position Summary
The Industrial Electrician / Controls Technician is responsible for the safe and reliable operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and improvement of electrical and industrial control systems throughout Freeman Corporation’s manufacturing facility. We are looking for a skilled individual with experience in factory environments and can help improve our operation.
This position supports production by troubleshooting complex electrical and controls issues; completing electrical installations and improvement projects; and maintaining equipment including Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, variable frequency drives, servo systems, motors, sensors, and safety circuits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain industrial electrical systems and manufacturing equipment, including:
- 480/460V three-phase power systems
- Motors, starters, contactors, overloads, transformers, and circuit breakers
- Variable frequency drives, soft starters, servo motors, and servo drives
- Sensors, photo eyes, proximity switches, encoders, solenoids, relays, and safety devices
- Control panels, disconnects, conduit, wiring, cable tray, and junction boxes
- Troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLC-controlled equipment, including PLCs, remote I/O, HMIs, communication modules, and related hardware
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, manuals, and technical documentation
- Use electrical test equipment, including digital multimeters and other diagnostic tools, to identify root causes of equipment failures
- Install and terminate electrical wiring, conduit, control devices, panels, motors, and other industrial equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance and document work performed, parts used, and failure causes in maintenance system
- Maintain good housekeeping and perform other duties as assigned.
- Follow all company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, electrical safety practices, and applicable OSHA and NFPA 70E requirements
- Report unsafe conditions and stop work when a task cannot be performed safely
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Five or more years of industrial electrical maintenance, controls, or automation experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting industrial machinery and electrical control systems
- Experience with 480/460V three-phase systems, motors, VFDs, sensors, control panels, and safety circuits
- Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams and safely perform electrical installations and repairs
- Working knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLC systems and related troubleshooting software
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot independently in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with maintenance, production, and management
- Ability to work second shift and occasional overtime, weekends, or shutdown periods as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical degree, electrical apprenticeship, journeyman training, or related certification
- Experience with Studio 5000, RSLogix, FactoryTalk View, PanelView, Ethernet/IP, remote I/O, servo systems, or machine safety controls
- NFPA 70E or other industrial electrical safety training
Pay and benefits
- Second-shift, full-time employment - typically 3pm–11:30pm with opportunities for overtime
- Benefits (health, dental, vision, life, PTO, 401K) beginning after 90 days
- Opportunities for a pay review and potential increase within your first 90 days, again after six months, and periodically thereafter
