Job Summary and Essential Job Duties:

The Process Writer supports Process Creation in writing, documenting, and releasing the manufacturing processes required to fabricate lenses and other optical specific customer requirements. Reviews each new order with respect to existing process steps and either creates processes or reworks processes to meet the customer requirements. The Process Writer will assess tooling for each process, and if required, creates work orders for new tooling. They review all recommended fabrication processes with Cell Leaders for manufacturing approval, then release processes. Works with the Manufacturing Engineers and Sales to resolve issues regarding part specifications, tolerances and fabrication processes.

Through On the Job Trainging (OJT), the Process Writer will:

  • Prioritizes work according to planned manufacturing start dates and coordinates process writing updates to manage their own workflow.
  • Attend and/or facilitate any production planning meeting(s) with Program/Project Managers, and team experts as required to effectively support customer program and projects
  • Provide purchasing with recommendations regarding appropriate blank/material sizing and quantities to support production requirements
  • Create additional drawing markups to improve manufacturability without changing the final fit, form, or function of the optic.
  • Determine parameters of parts to be manufactured and required tooling.
  • Creates clear, accurate, and easy-to-follow operational procedures specific to customer requirements
  • Collaborate with designated departmental process checkers and approvers to address and resolve questions or concerns related to the manufacturing process
  • Provide status updates to the process creation Team current project(s) and present at the weekly Process Creation Release Board Meeting
  • Update Process Creation documentation & ensure Optimax manufacturing standards are followed
  • Create rework process for any critical DMR's
  • Support Job Release with any process related issues and/or questions
  • Maintain a clean & orderly workspace
  • Follows the Adult Contract & adherence to Optimax Company Policy


Advancement through the Process Writer ranks is attained via increasing levels of education, experience, industrial skills, math skills, computing skills, responsibility and leadership potential and effectiveness.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, AAS degree or above.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires good math skills, ability to read & interpret blueprints, customer statement of work, & general understanding of optical materials and processing. Optics manufacturing experience a plus. Attention to details a must.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Epicor Kinetic, plus internal Company programs
  • Highly motivated, detail oriented, results driven team player.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear.
  • The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:

  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level can vary from quiet to loud frequencies.
  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.
  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.
  • May require area specific safety training.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes.
  • May be assigned to various production areas as needs require.
