About the Role

Description

Summary/Objective:

Ready to own a project from start to finish? Join Safe Site Utility Services in Glendale, Arizona as a Senior SUE Quality Level A Technician / Crew Lead. You'll be responsible for the complete execution, profitability, and quality of assigned Quality Level A projects, leading crews in the field and serving as a key point of contact for clients, inspectors, and project stakeholders. Your leadership ensures every deliverable is accurate, defensible, and completed safely.

This role is built for experienced foremen and crew leads from utility installation, underground construction, excavation, pipeline, gas, telecom, electric, water, sewer, or similar utility work. If you've planned and sequenced field work, managed crews and equipment, coordinated with inspectors and other trades, and been accountable for production and project results, we want to hear from you. SUE experience is not required. Strong field leadership is hard to find, and we'll teach you the SUE side of the work.

What is SUE?

Subsurface Utility Engineering is a structured process used to identify, map, and manage underground utilities during the planning and design phases.

Unlike standard utility locating, SUE goes further by:

  • verifying utility positions using multiple detection methods
  • assigning quality levels to each finding
  • integrating accurate data into engineering and design workflows

Because of this approach, SUE improves decision-making and significantly reduces uncertainty before construction begins.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • As the senior field leader on assigned projects, you will:
  • Independently plan, locate, and lay out large or complex projects
  • Lead multiple crews or complex Quality Level A assignments
  • Manage field production, staffing, and resources to keep large or complex projects within the established budget and schedule
  • Conduct pre-job reviews and confirm that required plans, permits, traffic control, survey support, equipment, and restoration resources are available
  • Communicate directly with clients, inspectors, surveyors, project managers, and other project stakeholders
  • Resolve field conflicts and determine when additional investigation is necessary
  • Provide final QA/QC approval for field documentation across assigned crews and projects, and ensure deficiencies are corrected before submission
  • Track scope, quantities, production, extra work, delays, and change-order support
  • Ensure final data can be tied back to the correct test hole, field identifier, and survey location
  • Train technicians and sign off on competency evaluations
  • Maintain responsibility for field safety, quality, productivity, profitability, and customer communication
  • Represent Safe Site professionally on client jobsites

Required Qualifications

  • Experience leading field crews, including scheduling, resource management, and production tracking
  • Strong working knowledge of SUE quality levels, EM locating, plan review, and test-hole documentation standards

  • Ability to train, evaluate, and develop technicians
  • Understanding of project budgets, change orders, and field profitability

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
