Requirements
JOB SUMMARY
The Instructional Support Specialist plays a critical role in elevating instructional quality and educator success across all 14 Salinas City Elementary School District (SCESD) Expanded Learning Program sites. This field-based position works closely with Site Admin teams to support the professional growth of program instructors and foster a culture of continuous improvement across all SCESD locations through hands-on coaching, training, and implementation support for high-quality STEAM and SEL programming. This position reports directly to a Senior Program Manager in Salinas City.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructor & Site Admin Coaching
- Deliver in-person training to Instructors on effective curriculum implementation, emphasizing classroom management, student engagement, and positive reinforcement strategies in order to empower Instructors to feel confidently resourced in leading the classroom and implementing curriculum.
- Support Site Admin in developing instructional leadership skills, including how to conduct effective observations and provide actionable, strengths-based feedback for Instructional staff on their competencies in leading groups, facilitating curriculum and building team rapport.
- Train Site Admin on implementation of weekly observation tools and establish a cadence for productive feedback cycles.
- Conduct weekly coaching conversations and feedback cycles for all Instructors, with a focus on growth and reflective practice in order to track development and adaptability amongst Instructional staff.
Curriculum Implementation & Customization
- Ensure all SCESD sites implement EDMO’s STEAM and SEL curriculum with consistency, quality, and enthusiasm by way of site observation, Instructional coaching, and self-initiated implementation tracking systems.
- Collaborate with Site Admin to adapt and enhance curriculum experiences based on site needs, including integration with community partners (e.g., Hartnell College Invention Convention).
- Serve as the liaison between on-site teams, EDMO’s Curriculum Team, and Program Culture Manager, synthesizing feedback and advocating for resources or adjustments to better meet site needs.
- Enhance Academic Supports structure by continuously updating curriculum options with engaging, grade-appropriate educational activities.
Training & Professional Development
- Design and facilitate engaging, practical training for new and returning instructional staff, grounded in adult learning principles and real classroom application.
- Ensure all Instructors are effectively delivering the EDMO (and other) curriculum, familiarizing oneself with EDMO Curriculum training, as well as design Salinas training to reinforce general curriculum training.
- Design and lead tailored professional development sessions aligned with Instructor observation data, district/school priorities, and feedback from Site Admin.
- Establish and maintain a professional development tracking system that identifies emerging needs and priority learning topics, in order to sync with Curriculum and Programs departments in providing supplemental training or Professional Development where needed or possible.
Instructional Systems & Data
- Develop and implement a tool for ongoing observations and feedback, ensuring it supports both developmental coaching and accountability.
- Track Instructor growth through coaching notes, observation data, and input from Site Admin, using insights to inform support coaching plans and PD design.
- Partner with SCESD leadership, the EDMO Curriculum Team, and Program Culture Manager to align coaching and training systems with broader program goals.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Sciences, or a related field, or 5+ years of experience in a related instructional support or coaching role.
- Relevant and verifiable experience in educational program support, including curriculum implementation, curriculum training, staff coaching, and classroom strategy.
- Familiarity with integrating DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) practices into educational support and training.
- Experience working with youth-serving curriculum partners is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking between school sites.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- This position may occasionally require the ability to lift up to 25 pounds to a height of 3-4 feet.

JOB LOCATION:
This is a 100% in-person role based in the Salinas City Elementary School District. It is expected that this position will be out at programs daily and meet with site leads or lead trainings during non-program hours.
COMPENSATION:
This is a full-time, regular hourly position. The pay range is $30-$34 per hour and will be commensurate with experience and location.
