About the Role

Supervises, plans, and organises the daily activities of housekeeping staff to ensure a clean, safe, and hygienic environment across the hospital. Ensures adherence to infection control, JCI standards, and departmental policies while facilitating smooth operations in wards, clinics, and public areas. Oversees inventories of linens, supplies, and chemicals, trains and develops staff, and ensures the effective use of resources while promoting environmentally sustainable housekeeping practices that reflect the hospital’s professional image and commitment to green initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises housekeepers in their assigned areas, ensuring tasks and special projects are completed on time and to the required standards.
  • Plans and schedules daily housekeeping activities based on staff availability and operational requirements.
  • Assigns and adjusts cleaning areas for housekeepers, considering workload and special cleaning needs.
  • Ensures JCIA and infection control codes are strictly maintained to provide a safe environment.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of housekeeping standards and departmental policies/procedures (DPPs).
  • Conducts periodic and special cleaning assignments, ensuring effective execution.
  • Monitors receipt, issuance, and stock levels of linens, supplies, chemicals, and equipment; places timely orders to maintain adequate inventory.
  • Ensures equipment and housekeeping trolleys are used, maintained, and stored safely to reflect the professional image of the hospital.
  • Supports staff training and development by coaching, mentoring, and conducting skill-building sessions for team members.
  • Monitors and evaluates staff performance, providing feedback and recommending corrective actions or recognition as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with waste management codes and environmentally sustainable practices.
  • Promotes and monitors sustainable housekeeping practices, including responsible use of water, energy, and chemicals to minimise environmental impact.
  • Ensures staff are trained in sustainable housekeeping practices and waste segregation procedures.
  • Verifies housekeeping keys are logged, issued, and returned after every shift, with proper records maintained.
  • Reviews and maintains logbooks, staff worksheets, supervisor inspection sheets, and reports.
  • Ensures manpower and material resources are used efficiently and economically.
  • Responds promptly to requests for assistance from wards and departments.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, Facilities Management, or related field.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of six (6) years of progressive housekeeping experience, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory role, preferably in a healthcare or hospitality setting.
  • Knowledge of JCI standards, infection control practices, and hospital housekeeping operations.
  • Knowledge of waste management codes, sustainable housekeeping methods, inventory management, and chemical safety procedures.
  • Skills in staff supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Skills in planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to optimise productivity.
  • Skills in maintaining inventory records, ordering supplies, and overseeing stock control.
  • Ability to apply and enforce sustainable practices in housekeeping operations to support the hospital’s environmental initiatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both spoken and written, with diverse nationalities.
  • Ability to lead by example, motivate staff, and foster a culture of accountability.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, adapt to changes, and ensure departmental goals are met.
