St. Louis Public Library’s Julia Davis Branch is seeking a Regional Youth Services Supervisor. Our ideal candidate is someone who will connect the community to our resources to further our primary mission as a customer-centered public library providing vital services to the people of St. Louis.
The role requires someone who can manage numerous projects at once and act as an ambassador for the library during programs and outreach activities. This position creates and implements high-quality and equitable youth programs and services that meet the diverse needs of children and youth in St. Louis.
In this role you will:
Supervise and provide leadership for Youth Services staff in your region to ensure they provide a welcoming environment for youth.
Develop high-quality and relevant programming for youth, and support Youth Services staff in doing so.
Establish and maintain working relations with schools and other community organizations to promote library services to students, teachers, and caregivers.
Act as Person in Charge when the manager and assistant manager are not available. This includes opening and closing the building, responding to emergencies, and operating the branch as needed.
Maintain knowledge of the Library’s collections and resources, and connect youth and caregivers to meaningful resources.
You will need to be:
Committed to serving St. Louis Public Library’s diverse customer base and developing your own cultural awareness.
Able to balance the big picture with the day-to-day needs of Youth Services and operating a branch.
Able to develop staff and hold them accountable to expectations.
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.
Friendly, outgoing, and able to work with youth of all ages.
You will need to have:
At least two years of related experience or Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Education, or related field; Master's in Library Science preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Strong communication, writing, and speaking skills.
Strong technical skills and an understanding of how technology can be incorporated into learning opportunities.
Access to reliable transportation for outreach and other job duties.

Hours for this position are:
Current schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays 11:40 am - 8:10 pm; Tuesdays & Thursdays 8:40 am - 5:10 pm; alternating Friday & Saturdays 8:40 am - 5:10 pm. Some Sundays 1-5 pm.

Julia Davis Library:
The branch was relocated to a brand-new facility at its present location in September 1991.
The Library broke with tradition by dedicating the branch in 1991 in honor of a living person, local educator and activist Dr. Julia Davis.

About the neighborhood:
Located on Natural Bridge Avenue in the Penrose neighborhood, the Julia Davis Branch maintains a deep community connection. Following the devastation of the May 2025 tornado, the Julia Davis Branch has been upgraded and reopened for 2026. The 15,000-square-foot facility now features the Creative Experience, a specialized makerspace and workforce development center, alongside a new Tool Library to support DIY projects and essential property maintenance.
