Make the Road New York (MRNY) builds the power of immigrant and working-class communities to achieve dignity and justice through organizing, policy innovation, transformative education, and survival services. Make the Road New York operates community centers in Bushwick, Brooklyn; Jackson Heights, Queens; Port Richmond, Staten Island; Brentwood, Long Island and White Plains, Westchester County. With a membership of 28,000, MRNY tackles the critical issues facing our communities, including workplace justice, tenants’ rights, immigrant rights and civil rights, TGNCIQ justice, public education, health care access, and immigration reform. MRNY is a multi-service organization. Our member-led organizing committees -- which work on the issues named above -- implement strategies to combat shared problems, and develop leadership and the capacity for civic participation. We also provide an array of high-quality bilingual services: We offer English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), citizenship preparation, and in-school and after-school youth programs. We have a robust legal program that offers direct representation across a spectrum of practice areas, including employment law, immigration law, housing and benefits, and TGNCIQ civil rights; we also take on impact litigation as a strategy for achieving broad change. Our health program offers facilitated enrollment into health insurance programs and SNAP benefits, a community health worker home visit program, nutrition education and emergency food pantries, health care navigation, and more."
The Adult Literacy Department provides English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes to support immigrant and adult learners in achieving their educational, professional, and personal goals.
Current Opening:
The Outreach & Program Support Specialist is a part-time bargaining unit position based in Queens, working 20 hours per week. While the position is primarily based in Queens, travel to all Make the Road New York (MRNY) sites may be required as needed.
The Outreach & Program Support Specialist will design, coordinate, and implement outreach activities for all Adult Education classes, developing strategies to maintain full enrollment and ensure classes run smoothly. Responsibilities include creating and managing a social media strategy for the Adult Education program, as well as monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of outreach efforts. As needed, the Outreach & Program Support Specialist will also support program administrative tasks, including student intake and other related tasks.
Key Responsibilities but not limited to:
Adult Education Program Outreach & Recruitment:
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine outreach and recruitment strategies in collaboration with Adult Literacy staff and other departments across the organization.
- Create, maintain, and distribute outreach and promotional materials through multiple channels, including email campaigns, social media platforms, direct mailings, community-based distribution, and partner organizations.
- Conduct in-person outreach activities, including street canvassing, community events, resource fairs, and presentations to promote Adult Literacy programs and increase enrollment.
- Build and sustain relationships with community organizations, public agencies, educational institutions, and local stakeholders to expand awareness of and access to MRNY Adult Literacy programming.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, community partnerships, and recruitment efforts, including the management of the program's partnership contact database.
- Collaborate with instructors and program staff to collect photos, videos, student stories, and other digital content that highlight program successes and support marketing, outreach, and social media campaigns.
- Track, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach and recruitment efforts, providing recommendations for improvement based on participation and enrollment trends.
Social Media & Digital outreach:
- Develop and implement a social media strategy to promote MRNY’s Adult Literacy programs and increase student enrollment.
- Create engaging content, including advertisements and posts, for platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
- Monitor, analyze, and evaluate the performance, reach, and cost-effectiveness of social media campaigns, making recommendations for improvement.
Other Administrative Support:
- Support the management of program waitlists and student recruitment pipelines.
- Coordinate mass texting and other communication campaigns to support outreach and intake efforts.
- Administer BEST Plus assessments to support students’ appropriate class placement.
- Enroll students into Adult Education classes using Salesforce and other program systems.
- Provide additional administrative support to ensure smooth program operations and student onboarding processes.
Team/Org Communication:
- Participate in staff meetings, department meetings, organizational events, and cross-program initiatives as required.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, training, conferences, and learning opportunities aligned with program and funder expectations.
- Communicate program challenges, student trends, and emerging needs to the Program Director and relevant staff.
- Contribute to program planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Respond promptly and professionally to emails, phone calls, and organizational communications.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to support organizational goals and student success.
Requirements:
- Eligible to work in the US
- Fully bilingual (English/ Spanish) REQUIRED
- Bachelor' s degree or Associate’s degree
- 1-3 years of experience in marketing/communications, social media, and a demonstrated knowledge of the current digital landscape, and best practices.
- Very strong digital literacy skills with GSuite, Microsoft Office, Canva, Box, Zoom, and Google Voice, as well as social media platforms
- Occasional travel to other MRNY offices required
- Occasional evenings and weekends are required
- Possess a commitment to collective action and community organizing.
- Have experience working in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic work environment
Salary and Benefits:
MRNY offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days. The salary range for this position is from $29.20 to $30.23
