About the Role

The Area Operations and Maintenance Division of the Meetinghouse Facilities Department is seeking to appoint a Facilities Maintenance Technician. This is a permanent full-time position, and the successful candidate will be based in Pesega. This position reports to the Facilities Manager.

 

As a Maintenance Technician, you will maintain and repair Church facilities by carrying out work in multiple skilled areas such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and general maintenance. This role is ideal for someone looking to build their technical skills while working independently and contributing to the upkeep of Church properties.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance across buildings, equipment, and facility systems. 

  • Complete repairs involving carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, and general maintenance tasks. 

  • Conduct inspections to identify and resolve maintenance issues. 

  • Manage work orders, materials, and maintenance records using computer-based systems. 

  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow all health and safety requirements. 

  • Work with contractors and colleagues to support facility operations. 

  • Travel between sites and operate a company vehicle when required.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of any combination of related experience or progress towards or completion of a relevant university (post-secondary) degree or an industry-recognized certification.

  • Possess a strong working knowledge in three or more skilled areas, including plumbing, carpentry, painting and plastering, machine servicing, electrical repairs, or installations.

  • Able to communicate ideas and convey and receive instruction accurately.

  • Able to read and comprehend instructions including, but not limited to, safety policies and technical procedure manuals.

  • Maintain adequate knowledge of and always comply with standards and company safety policies.

  • Able to effectively communicate and present information to individuals and small groups.

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, including the ability to prepare clear and accurate correspondence.

  • Able to read and comprehend instructions including, but not limited to, safety policies and procedure manuals.

  • Able to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Proficient in the use of computers, cellphones, and tablets. Understand and be able to use MS office applications department specific software, web-based programs, internet services, and wireless communications.

  • Able to efficiently manage their own schedule and prioritize their work to accomplish job requirements.

  • Familiar with and able to safely use industrial cleaning chemicals and products.

  • Maintain a valid driver's license and operate fleet vehicle.

  • Essential Physical Requirements, you must be able to do the following:

  • Physically fit and able to lift up to 23 kg.

  • Comfortable with regular walking, climbing ladders and stairs, working at heights, and performing manual tasks.

  • Able to work in confined spaces and use maintenance tools safely.

  • Valid driver's licence required.

  • Proof of legal right to work in Samoa

  • A police background check may be required
