MAHUBE-OTWA is hiring caring individuals, with a strong independent initiative and excellent attendance to work in our Park Rapids Early Head Start Family Childcare as a Teacher Assistant. Your workdays will be filled with education, laughter, art, stories, hugs and so much more. Go home each day having had fun at work and feeling like you made a difference!


Eligible applicants will have a passion for educating young minds and be availability for full-time work. 


Pay: $22.35 – $23.10

Schedule: Non-Exempt, Day Shift, Monday – Friday, full time, year-round with four one-week layoffs spread over the program year.

Requirements

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • High school diploma or GED required. A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is required but does not need to be held at the time of hire. Employees hired without a CDA must be enrolled in a CDA credential program and obtain the credential within two years of hire. MAHUBE-OTWA provides training and support to obtain the required credential.
  • Assignment Specific Qualification Requirements:

Grade 8 – Teacher Assistant: Class C Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) not required.

Grade 9 – Teacher Assistant/Bus Driver: Must obtain and maintain a valid CDL with passenger endorsement, required DOT physical, and acceptable driving record. CDL is not required at the time of hire; MAHUBE-OTWA provides training to obtain the required CDL.

  • Knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices for the classroom is essential.
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and DCYF child-care licensing requirements and the ability to maintain compliance with these standards. 
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence and perform basic math.
  • Ability to apply common-sense solutions in standardized situations. Ability to express/exchange ideas and instructions to clients, the public or other employees. 
  • Must have the ability to work in a positive and cooperative manner with children, staff and parents. Must effectively and professionally deal with typical and unexpected classroom situations. Must have the ability to handle emergency situations with young children and parents.
  • Must honor private/confidential information.
  • Must have basic computer skills including working with e-mail, internet, data entry, computer files, databases and/or web-based programs.
  • Teacher Assistant/Bus Driver Only: Must be available and willing to drive both morning and/or afternoon bus routes based on the location’s needs.
  • First Aid/CPR certification required.
  • Must successfully complete all background studies and checks required by Minnesota law and federal Head Start standards.
