Summary:
The Additive Manufacturing (AM) Technician is a hands-on production role responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining advanced additive manufacturing equipment to produce high-quality parts for aerospace and other high-precision industries. This position supports all aspects of the additive manufacturing process, including machine setup, build preparation, powder handling, preventive maintenance, in-process inspection, and production documentation while ensuring compliance with AS9100 quality standards and workplace safety requirements.
Working closely with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams, the AM Technician plays a key role in maximizing equipment uptime, troubleshooting production issues, maintaining process discipline, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate is a safety-focused, mechanically inclined individual who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is committed to delivering high-quality results.
Key Responsibilities:
Additive Manufacturing Operations
- Operate, monitor, and maintain additive manufacturing systems, including LPBF, E-Beam, SLS, and FDM equipment, to produce high-quality parts and meet production schedules.
- Prepare builds by reviewing files, configuring build layouts, setting up equipment, and verifying process parameters.
- Monitor active builds, identify process deviations or equipment issues, and take appropriate corrective action or escalate as required.
- Perform powder handling activities, including loading, sieving, recovery, and storage, in accordance with established procedures and safety requirements.
- Support daily production activities while collaborating with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams to achieve operational objectives.
Equipment Maintenance & Process Support
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on additive manufacturing equipment and related systems to maximize uptime.
- Troubleshoot equipment and process issues, documenting observations and supporting root cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness, consumable inventories, and overall machine readiness in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and internal procedures.
Quality & Documentation
- Follow AS9100 quality requirements, work instructions, and standard operating procedures throughout the manufacturing process.
- Complete production documentation, including build records, maintenance logs, and inspection records, accurately and on time.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers to perform in-process and post-build inspections.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, efficiency, and equipment reliability.
Safety & Teamwork
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while complying with all health, safety, PPE, and powder handling requirements.
- Communicate effectively with team members during shift handovers and daily production activities to ensure operational continuity.
- Support a positive team environment by demonstrating accountability, professionalism, and a commitment to quality and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the responsibilities of the role.
Requirements
Technical Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of experience operating advanced manufacturing equipment, preferably in an additive manufacturing or metal powder environment.
- Experience in manufacturing, precision machining, or other high-precision production environments.
- Hands-on experience operating and performing routine maintenance on LPBF, E-Beam, SLS, FDM, or similar additive manufacturing systems is considered an asset.
- Proficiency using precision measuring equipment, including calipers and micrometers.
- Knowledge of powder handling procedures and associated safety requirements is an asset.
- Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems and manufacturing documentation is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work shifts and overtime as required.
Education & Professional Attributes
- College diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve operational issues.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with a commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and producing work to a high standard.

Pay Range:
The expected hourly wage range for this position is $22 - $26 CAD. Actual compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skills, experience, education and qualifications.
