About the Role

Description

Director, E-commerce

Buena Park, CA

Employment Type: Full-Time

Rate of Pay: $140,000/yr

We’re looking for a Director of Ecommerce to join our team, where you’ll be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing carrier relationships to secure the most competitive pricing for final mile and middle mile transportation contracts, while also leading UNIS’s broader e-commerce strategy.

This role combines carrier management and sourcing expertise with a strong client-facing sales function, acting as a trusted advisor to help both new and existing clients optimize their parcel spend and maximize return on investment, while driving growth and operational excellence across e-commerce channels.

This is a hybrid role: approximately 50% carrier sourcing/negotiation and data-driven pricing strategy, and 50% client-facing sales support, education, and account growth.

Your Impact:

As a Director, E-commerce, you will:

Carrier Sourcing & Pricing (50%)

  • Source, negotiate, and maintain competitive final mile and middle mile carrier contracts on an ongoing basis.
  • Continuously identify and develop new carrier partnerships to expand network coverage and pricing options.
  • Analyze market data and carrier performance to benchmark and secure best-in-class pricing at all times.
  • Build and maintain pricing models, rate cards, and cost comparisons using Excel and other data tools.
  • Monitor market trends, capacity shifts, and carrier performance to proactively adjust sourcing strategy.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of carrier agreements, rates, and terms.

Sales Support & Client Enablement (50%)

  • Act as a subject matter expert to support and educate existing and prospective clients on parcel spend optimization.
  • Partner with the sales team to identify opportunities where clients can save costs or improve ROI on parcel/shipping spend.
  • Develop client-facing materials (savings analyses, rate comparisons, ROI presentations) to support new business and retention efforts.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, serving as a trusted advisor on carrier strategy and cost efficiency.
  • Support onboarding of new clients by translating carrier/pricing strategy into practical, actionable recommendations.

E-Commerce Strategy & Growth

  • Develop and lead UNIS’s e-commerce strategy, aligning carrier and fulfillment solutions with client growth in direct-to-consumer (DTC) and marketplace channels.
  • Identify trends in e-commerce fulfillment, last-mile delivery, and returns management, and translate them into service offerings and competitive differentiators for UNIS.
  • Partner with product and operations teams to develop or refine e-commerce-specific solutions (e.g., checkout shipping options, delivery speed tiers, returns logistics).
  • Evaluate and recommend integrations with e-commerce platforms and marketplaces (e.g., Shopify, Amazon, WooCommerce, BigCommerce) to streamline client onboarding and shipping workflows.
  • Monitor competitor and industry benchmarks in e-commerce logistics to keep UNIS’s offerings market-leading.
  • Represent UNIS’s e-commerce capabilities at industry trade shows and client-facing events.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Billing Integrity

  • Work in close coordination with Finance (reconciliation, AR/AP, and billing teams) to ensure carrier invoicing and chargebacks are accurate.
  • Oversee and manage the team’s process for filing and resolving carrier claims (e.g., overcharges, service failures, lost/damaged shipments).
  • Serve as the escalation point for pricing or billing discrepancies between carriers and internal finance functions.

Team Leadership

  •  Provide dotted-line guidance and oversight to Carrier Analysts   and Integration Support staff.
  • Provide supervision and direction to Account Managers as needed,   given the specialized, product-specific nature of this role.
  • Support onboarding,   training, and performance feedback for team members involved in carrier   sourcing and client support.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Mathematics, Analytics,   Economics, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of full-time equivalent work experience in   carrier management, freight/parcel procurement, transportation sourcing, or a   related logistics field.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of securing   favorable pricing and contract terms.
  • Comfort working in a dual-function role that blends   analytical/sourcing work with client-facing sales support. Advanced   proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, data modeling, formulas) and   the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proficiency with AI/LLM tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot)   to support data analysis, research, and productivity.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the   ability to present pricing and cost-saving strategies clearly to clients.   Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple carrier relationships   and client accounts simultaneously.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with finance/billing teams   on invoice reconciliation and carrier claims.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country without   current or future sponsorship.

Preferred

  • Experience in final mile or middle mile logistics/parcel delivery specifically.
  • Existing carrier network relationships within the parcel/logistics industry.
  • Experience with TMS (transportation management systems) or rate benchmarking tools.
  • Prior experience with dotted-line or matrixed team leadership. Experience with e-commerce platforms and marketplace integrations (e.g., Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, WooCommerce, BigCommerce).
  • Familiarity with DTC fulfillment models, returns logistics, and checkout shipping optimization.

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 25% travel for industry trade shows and conferences (e.g., MODEX/Manifest, Parcel Forum). Approximately 10% travel to company headquarters for training, team meetings, and strategic planning sessions.
