The Quality Engineer is responsible for solving systemic quality problems, strengthening manufacturing controls, and protecting the customer through disciplined problem solving and verified corrective action. This role partners with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, Materials, and the Quality team to improve product and process quality across Simplex operations.


This position leads root cause analysis, corrective action, quality planning, and data-driven improvement. The Quality Engineer supports customer and supplier quality concerns, ISO 9001 requirements, and the development of sustainable process controls that prevent recurrence 

  

• Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action for customer escapes, repeat defects, audit findings, and significant internal nonconformances.

• Develop clear problem statements, containment plans, corrective actions, verification plans, and effectiveness checks using methods such as 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D, A3, and CAPA.

• Analyze defect, rework, scrap, first-pass yield, warranty, and other quality data to identify patterns, prioritize risk, and recommend improvement actions.

• Partner with Engineering and Production to clarify requirements, improve drawings and work instructions, establish acceptance criteria, and build quality into the process.

• Support New Product Introduction and first builds through risk reviews, First Article Inspections, control plans, inspection methods, and production-readiness verification.

• Support supplier quality improvement with Purchasing, including defect investigation, containment, corrective action, and follow-up verification.

• Support customer quality concerns through timely containment, technical analysis, documented response, and closure evidence.

• Improve inspection and test methods, measurement-system controls, Gage R&R activities, calibration practices, and quality records.

• Support the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, internal and external audits, procedure 

updates, document control, and closure of findings.

• Serve as a technical resource for UL and other applicable industry standards. 

• Partner with Engineering and Operations to ensure products and processes meet  

compliance requirements. 

• Support regulatory audits, inspections, and corrective action activities. 

• Interpret quality and compliance standards and assist departments with implementation.

• Maintain assigned work with a clear owner, due date, status, next action, evidence, and timely escalation of barriers.

• Provide technical guidance and training to Quality Technicians and production personnel on inspection methods, defect prevention, problem solving, and quality standards.

• Participate in daily quality reviews, production-floor verification, and cross-functional continuous improvement activities.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.


Requirements

  

• Bachelor's degree in Quality, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

• Three or more years of experience in manufacturing quality, quality engineering, process engineering, supplier quality, or a related technical role preferred.

• Experience with root cause analysis, corrective action, and quality improvement methodologies.

• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems, auditing, nonconformance control, and risk-based thinking.

• Experience working with UL standards and compliance requirements preferred.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, Bills of Material, and technical work instructions.

• Experience with FMEA, control plans, SPC, MSA, Gage R&R, capability analysis, First Article Inspection, or supplier corrective action preferred.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint; experience with ERP, quality-management, or reporting systems preferred.
