Job Purpose:
Performs a variety of duties including the cultivation and care of the landscaping and grounds surrounding the building as well as collecting and preparing items to be recycled.
Essential Functions:
- Performs routine groundskeeping duties such as mowing, trimming, and edging.
- Landscapes by planting grass, shrubs and bushes as needed.
- Apply herbicides used in groundskeeping.
- Apply fertilizer to the grounds to enhance growth.
- Safely operates light vehicles such as pick-up trucks, riding mowers and portable power tools and equipment such as leaf blowers, sprayers, and other groundskeeping equipment.
- Repairs concrete driveways as necessary.
- Collects and disassembles recyclable items at the facility and at customer locations.
- Assists in preventing accidents resulting from snow or ice-covered walkways and facility roadways as needed.
- Performs minor repairs and routine preventative maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in groundskeeping.
- Assists with removal of sawdust and trash.
- Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing all other duties as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Required Qualifications:
- Must have a valid driver’s license and pass driver background check.
- Must possess or be able to successfully obtain a valid forklift driver certification.
- Ability to learn the proper operation and maintenance of ground maintenance tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Ability and awareness to recognize sights and sounds in the workplace which the employee might encounter.
- Ability to maintain a clean and functional workspace.
- Ability to lift or move heavy equipment/materials.
- Ability to read instructions.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Good organizational skills and ability to multitask.
- Ability to work well with others and work under minimal supervision.
- Flexible with required working hours, including overtime.
- Flexible within the department and willing to flex to other departments as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Understanding of ground maintenance and upkeep needs.
- Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements:
Able to lift up to 50 pounds from knee to waist level. Occasionally pushes and/or pulls up to 50 pounds using moving equipment, as needed. Frequently bends, stoops, and reaches while operating equipment. Must be able to walk and stand for 8 to 10 hours on a concrete surface or uneven ground. Occasionally climbs a ladder. Will be frequently exposed to chemicals, dust, heat, cold, gas, and/or fumes. Must be able to adjust to environmental conditions (above moderate heat and cold and inclement weather such as wind and rain) and to adapt quickly to physical applications requiring varying motor skills.
