About the Role

Description

Conair, part of the PiovanGroup, is a leading producer of auxiliary equipment for the plastics processing industry. We make and market over 450 different products, including resin-drying systems, blenders, feeders and material-conveying systems, temperature-control equipment and granulators. Extrusion solutions include gravimetric control systems, film and sheet scrap-reclaim systems and downstream equipment for pipe and profile extrusion. Conair is also a leader in plastics process integration, engineering and installing complete manufacturing systems that help plastics processors manage their valuable raw materials, handle their critical manufactured parts, and improve their process yield. 


Position: Laser Cutting Technician

Location: Franklin, PA


Role

The Laser Cutting Technician sets up, operates, and maintains CNC laser cutting systems to transform raw metal sheets, tubing and structural shapes into high-precision components. This position reports to the Fabrication Supervisor and is located in our plant in Franklin, Pennsylvania. 


Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Run CNC laser cutting machines, load cutting programs, and adjust parameters (like focus, speed, and assist gases) for different material types and thicknesses.
  • Stage, load, and unload raw sheet metal and finished parts safely using overhead cranes, forklifts, or vacuum lifts etc. Maintain and control inventory of raw material.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, engineering blueprints, work orders, and production specifications.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify correct dimensions. Identify and resolve basic equipment, material, or programming issues, and perform routine daily cleaning and preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean work area following company safety rules while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to ensure smooth workflow and project completion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; technical certification or trade school training in machining or metal fabrication is a plus.
  • Two (2+) years of hands-on experience operating CNC laser cutting equipment or working in a fast-paced sheet metal fabrication environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, computer literacy, and familiarity with CNC programming, nesting, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills to troubleshoot failures and minimize downtime.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy items, stand/walk for long periods.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and compliance with industry standards.
