Summary:
The CNC Programmer is responsible for developing machining strategies and CNC programs for additively manufactured components with complex geometries and high-precision requirements. This role translates engineering requirements into effective machining solutions through CNC programming, setup documentation, tooling selection, and workholding and fixture design.
The CNC Programmer supports both milling and turning applications, with a primary focus on multi-axis milling. Working closely with CNC Machinists, Engineering and Quality, the Programmer develops practical machining approaches for new product development, first articles and ongoing production, incorporating shop-floor feedback into program revisions and improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
CNC Programming & Machining Strategy
- Develop and maintain CNC programs for multi-axis milling and turning applications.
- Develop machining strategies for complex, high-precision components based on engineering requirements, material characteristics, machine capabilities, and production requirements.
- Create and maintain machining setup sheets, tool lists, and other required program documentation.
- Define appropriate tooling, machining sequences, and cutting parameters to support safe and effective machining.
- Review and revise CNC programs based on production feedback, engineering changes, quality findings, and process improvement opportunities.
Workholding & Fixture Development
- Collaborate with Engineering and CNC Machinists to develop effective workholding strategies for complex component geometries.
- Design machining fixtures and workholding solutions to support machining and dimensional requirements.
- Evaluate workholding and fixture requirements and recommend improvements to address manufacturing risks or inefficiencies.
Cross-Functional Manufacturing Support
- Collaborate with CNC Machinists, Engineering, Quality, and Production to support machining strategies and address manufacturing challenges.
- Review engineering drawings, models, specifications, and customer requirements to ensure programming strategies support manufacturing and quality requirements.
- Support root cause and corrective action activities related to CNC programming and machining processes.
- Support new product introduction and ongoing production requirements for new or technically challenging components.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure CNC programs and related documentation are maintained in accordance with AS9100 requirements and company procedures.
- Maintain controlled CNC programs and documentation to support traceability and effective revision control.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to CNC programming and machining processes.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Requirements
Technical Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in CNC programming within a precision machining environment.
- Expert-level proficiency with Mastercam and strong experience developing multi-axis CNC programs.
- Experience programming both CNC milling and turning applications.
- Advanced ability to interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and GD&T requirements.
- Strong experience developing machining strategies, workholding solutions, and fixtures for complex components.
- Strong knowledge of cutting tools, machining parameters, toolpath development, and manufacturing process planning.
- Experience with FANUC-controlled CNC equipment and Renishaw probing systems is considered a strong asset.
- Hands-on CNC machining, setup, or troubleshooting experience is considered a strong asset.
Industry & Quality Knowledge
- Experience in aerospace, space, or another high-precision manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 requirements and manufacturing documentation is preferred.
- Experience in a complex, high-mix manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
Education & Professional Attributes
- College diploma or bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant education and experience will also be considered.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex machining requirements.
- Collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively with CNC Machinists, Engineering, Quality, and Production.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates ownership, accountability, sound technical judgment, and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

Pay Range:
The expected base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 CAD annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate's skills, experience, education, and qualifications.
