About the Role

Description

Serving the Mid-South with excellence for over 50 years, Klaasmeyer Construction Company is looking for our next Laborer to join the Field Operations team. In this position, you will be assisting our excavation and trenching operations teams by carefully hand-digging near underground utilities, installing conduit channels, and performing complete site restoration following work.

Requirements

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Hand digging around existing underground utilities in congested areas where the excavator can't go
  • Potholing to expose and verify utility locations before the Equipment Operator gets close
  • Laying and installing conduit and innerduct — fittings, couplings, grade, and alignment
  • Backfilling, compacting, and restoring the ground surface to pre-construction condition
  • Spotting equipment, setting up traffic control, and supporting the crew throughout the day

What We Need From You

  • Ability to perform sustained hard physical labor in all weather conditions — shoveling, lifting, and moving materials all day
  • Reliable — shows up on time and works the full day
  • Safety aware — follows rules around equipment and underground utilities without being told twice
  • Prior construction or general labor experience preferred; willing to train the right person
  • Valid driver's license required
  • OSHA 10 and Flagger certification preferred or willing to obtain
  • Strong attention to detail and steady hands — this work requires sustained precision at a small scale
  • Travel locally and regionally for projects; out of state work may be required

The Physical Reality

As one of our most physically demanding field roles, this position entails continuous shoveling, handling heavy conduit, compacting fill material, and standing for full shifts across all weather conditions. For candidates with strong physical capacity and a solid work ethic, this represents a great opportunity to get your foot in the door with a growing telecom construction company.

  • Continuous manual excavation and shoveling throughout the entire shift
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, and maneuvering of conduit piping, gear, and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Repetitive bending, kneeling, and active labor in open excavations
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions

This is a safety-sensitive position subject to pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol testing per company policy.
