Dining Service Supervisor - Wilmington College

Hallmark Dining Service at Wilmington College is seeking a dependable, motivated, and hands-on Food Service Supervisor to help lead daily dining operations and provide an exceptional dining experience for students, faculty, staff, and campus guests.
The Food Service Supervisor plays an important role in ensuring efficient service, maintaining high standards of food quality and safety, supporting employees, and creating a welcoming environment for the campus community. This position requires a strong work ethic, effective communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced food service environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Daily Operations
Supervise daily food service operations to ensure timely, efficient, and consistent service.
Ensure food is prepared, presented, and served according to established quality standards, recipes, and portion guidelines.
Monitor food stations, serving lines, dining areas, and service supplies to maintain readiness throughout each meal period.
Assist with food preparation, serving, stocking, cleaning, and other operational duties as needed.
Respond promptly to operational challenges and make sound decisions to maintain service quality and efficiency.
Ensure opening, closing, and shift-transition procedures are completed accurately and consistently.
Team Leadership and Employee Development
Provide direction, support, and accountability to hourly dining service employees.
Assign duties, communicate expectations, and ensure employees remain productive and engaged throughout their shifts.
Lead by example by maintaining a positive attitude, demonstrating professionalism, and actively participating in daily operations.
Train employees on food preparation, service procedures, sanitation, and workplace expectations.
Address performance concerns, reinforce established policies, and communicate significant employee issues to management.
Foster a respectful, collaborative work environment that emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and accountability.
Food Safety and Sanitation
Ensure compliance with applicable food safety regulations, sanitation standards, and company policies.
Monitor proper food temperatures, storage practices, labeling, rotation, and handling procedures.
Ensure workstations, equipment, dining areas, and kitchen spaces are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition.
Identify and correct food safety or sanitation concerns promptly.
Support inventory management and minimize food waste through proper preparation, storage, and portion control.
Customer Service and Campus Engagement
Maintain a welcoming, professional, and student-focused dining environment.
Respond courteously to questions, concerns, and feedback from students, faculty, staff, and guests.
Help resolve service issues promptly and communicate recurring concerns to management.
Support special dining events, themed meals, campus programs, and other activities as assigned.
Work collaboratively with other dining team members to improve service, food quality, and the overall guest experience.
Administrative and Other Responsibilities
Assist with monitoring inventory, tracking supplies, and identifying ordering needs.
Support employee scheduling, attendance tracking, and shift coverage as assigned.
Communicate operational needs, equipment concerns, and staffing issues to management.
Assist with controlling labor costs, food waste, and other operating expenses.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the successful operation of Hallmark Dining Service.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Previous experience in food service, hospitality, or a related field.
Previous leadership, supervisory, or team-lead experience preferred.
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and accountability.
Ability to provide direction to employees while maintaining positive working relationships.
Commitment to food safety, sanitation, quality service, and customer satisfaction.
Ability to perform hands-on food service duties, including standing for extended periods and lifting or moving supplies as required by the position.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events, based on operational needs.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in institutional dining, college or university food service, or high-volume food service operations.
Knowledge of food safety standards and safe food handling practices.
Experience training employees and managing daily shift responsibilities.
Familiarity with inventory control, food waste reduction, and labor management.
Food safety certification, such as ServSafe, or willingness to obtain certification as required.

This position operates in a high-volume college dining environment that requires frequent interaction with employees and guests. The Food Service Supervisor must be comfortable working in a commercial kitchen and dining service setting, adapting to changing operational demands, and remaining actively engaged during meal periods.

Job Related Duties & Responsibilities
- Demonstrates complete understanding of all menu items being served and can access associated allergen or additional information that customers may need
- Lead by example in consistently supporting company policies (i.e. uniform, name tags, safety, cut gloves, etc.)
- Holds team accountable through field coaching during the shift
- Supports team in maintaining a clean and organized workspace storing, labeling and rotating product according to our standards
- Assures all station specific standards are always being met through the employees working in those areas
- Provides direction to assigned staff to assure that customers are being efficiently served based upon volume throughout meal service
- Communicate service issues/information to management as needed to assure a smooth-running operation
- Exhibits a customer comes first attitude

Wednesday: 1:30pm-11:30pm
Thursday: 1:30pm-11:30pm
Friday: 11:00am-9:00pm
Saturday: 9:30am-7:30pm
38-40 hours per week.
