Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Part Finisher III is responsible for finishing parts in accordance with job sheet requirements, customer specifications, and supplied drawings. This position serves as a senior technical resource within the finishing department, performing complex finishing operations, troubleshooting quality issues, and ensuring finished parts meet established quality standards and customer expectations. The Part Finisher III also provides hands-on training, guidance, and mentorship to team members to promote consistent workmanship, safe work practices, and continuous improvement.


Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Work closely with the Leads, Project Technicians and the Quality Department to ensure finishing requirements and customer specifications are met.
  • Serve as a technical resource for other finishers by providing guidance on complex parts, finishing methods, defect identification, and troubleshooting.
  • Compare actual part to job sheet/drawing to verify existence of features, basic measurements and insert locations.
  • Visually inspect parts for defect and identify potential quality concerns before parts move to the next stage of production. Identify opportunities to improve finishing methods, reduce rework and scrap, increase efficiency, and improve overall product quality.
  • Perform advanced finishing operations using a variety of hand tools, equipment, and techniques to meet customer-specific quality standards.
  • Independently prioritize and complete complex finishing assignments while maintaining quality, productivity, and established deadlines.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve finishing-related issues within established procedures and escalate complex or recurring problems to the appropriate Lead or Quality representative.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Promote a positive work environment.
  • Train, coach, and mentor new and existing Part Finishers on finishing techniques, work instructions, quality expectations, proper tool usage, and safe work practices.
  • Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities that may be assigned at any time. 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of related work experience is preferred.
  • Ability to read, understand, and execute work with detailed job instructions.
  • Excellent hand skills and coordination.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team as well as individually.
  • Ability to multitask when needed.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks without constant supervision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas where all areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, and other mandatory safety equipment.
  • For the most part, ambient temperatures are climate controlled due to production requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift) on a manufacturing floor 
  • Frequent use of hands for handling, sanding, polishing, grinding, and finishing parts 
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials weighing up to 25–50 pounds, with or without assistance 
  • Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching 
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required to operate finishing tools and equipment 
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing 
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to dust, fumes, noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures 
  • Ability to distinguish colors, finishes, and surface defects as needed for quality inspection 
  • Sufficient vision (with or without correction) to inspect detailed parts and surfaces 
  • Ability to safely operate finishing equipment such as grinders, sanders, bead blasters, or similar tools
