JOB TITLE: Field Operations & Training Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: 3040 – Admin Mgmt. – Support Services

REPORT TO: Director of Operations

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, Exempt

LOCATION: Edwardsville, KS (Onsite)

JOB OVERVIEW

The Field Operations & Training Coordinator is responsible for coordinating transportation training programs, providing hands-on training at restaurant locations, supporting field operations, and maintaining positive customer relationships. Key responsibilities include coordinating new hire training, monitoring employee development, conducting delivery observations, and identifying opportunities for operational improvement. This position collaborates with internal departments and restaurant personnel to promote safety, efficiency, consistent training practices, and exceptional customer service. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Training Coordination & Employee Development

  • Coordinate and facilitate new hire and ongoing training programs for delivery drivers, driver assistants, and transportation personnel, including scheduling, evaluations, and employee development.
  • Conduct hands-on training at restaurant locations, as well as individual and group training, utilizing company procedures, Training Within Industry (TWI), Smith System, and other approved training methods.
  • Monitor employee progress, identify training needs, provide coaching, and recommend additional training or corrective action as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain training materials, schedules, records, and documentation to support company standards and applicable DOT/FMCSA regulations.
  • Collaborate with Transportation management, Safety, and Human Resources to evaluate training effectiveness and support continuous improvement.

Field Operations & Delivery Observations

  • Conduct delivery observations to evaluate driver performance, safety practices, product handling, equipment usage, customer interactions, and adherence to company procedures.
  • Provide coaching and constructive feedback, document findings, and communicate performance concerns and improvement opportunities to Transportation management.
  • Conduct follow-up observations and assist with implementing operational improvements and corrective action plans.
  • Accompany delivery drivers on scheduled routes, including overnight deliveries, as operational needs require.  

Customer Relations & Field Service

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with restaurant personnel, customer representatives, and internal departments.
  • Conduct restaurant visits, provide hands-on operational training, address customer concerns, and coordinate with appropriate departments to ensure timely resolution and customer satisfaction.
  • Train restaurant personnel on Earp Distribution procedures, inventory management, product rotation, receiving practices, and other operational requirements.
  • Represent Earp Distribution at customer meetings, co-op meetings, and other events as assigned.

Operational Support & Documentation

  • Collaborate with Transportation, Safety, Human Resources, Customer Service, and Warehouse Operations to improve communication, operational efficiency, and training consistency.
  • Maintain accurate records of training activities, delivery observations, restaurant visits, customer concerns, and operational reports, including documentation in CMS.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements while supporting company initiatives related to safety, regulatory compliance, employee development, and customer service.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience in transportation, logistics, distribution, field operations, or a related industry preferred.
  • Experience in food distribution, customer service, or restaurant operations preferred.
  • Previous experience in employee training, coaching, or development preferred.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred. Candidates without a Class A CDL must be willing and able to obtain one within 6 months of hire, or within a timeframe established by Earp Distribution.
  • Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, TWI, and Smith System defensive driving principles preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively train, coach, and provide constructive feedback to individuals and groups.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify concerns and recommend practical solutions.
  •  Ability to build positive relationships with employees, management, and customers at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain a professional company image.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn company-specific software.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, work flexible schedules, and conduct overnight delivery observations as needed. 


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in business administration, Transportation, Logistics, Training and Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Training Within Industry (TWI) – Job Instruction (JI) certification required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Smith System Certification preferred, or willingness to obtain as required by the company.
  • Additional certifications related to transportation safety, DOT/FMCSA compliance, or employee training preferred.
