About the Role

Description

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to safely and efficiently move trailers, equipment, and product within the yard and between designated company facilities or customer locations to support daily transportation and service requirements. This role combines yard hostler and shuttle driving responsibilities, ensuring the timely movement of trailers and freight while maintaining compliance with applicable safety regulations, company policies, and operating procedures. 


Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and meet all applicable qualifications to operate commercial motor vehicles.
  • Safely operate a yard tractor to move, position, and organize trailers within the yard.
  • Operate a Class A commercial vehicle to shuttle trailers, freight, and equipment between designated company facilities and warehouses.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles and equipment, promptly reporting defects, maintenance needs, or safety concerns.
  • Ensure trailers are properly connected, secured, and positioned before moving equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of trailer movements, shuttle trips, vehicle inspections, and other required documentation.
  • Coordinate  with warehouse, transportation, and operations teams to support timely trailer movements and daily service requirements.
  • Verify trailer identification, assignments, and load information as required to ensure accurate movement of freight and equipment.
  • Comply with applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, traffic laws, hours-of-service requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard and work environment.
  • Operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, reach trucks, and order pickers, as needed and when properly trained and authorized.
  • Follow  all company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and established safety practices.
  • Participate in required safety meetings and training.
  • Work a variety of shifts and schedules to accommodate operational and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to promote operational efficiency and service excellence.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Safely and skillfully use assigned equipment in a busy warehouse environment
  • Manage priorities in a timely and efficient manner within critical deadlines
  • Accuracy in handling customers’ orders
  • Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook
  • Working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems such as Synapse
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively

Education, Experiences, Certificates/Licenses and/or Registrations:

  • High School diploma or GED 
  • Minimum 3 years of warehouse experience 
  • Minimum 1 year as a certified operator of MHE 
  • Class A license required

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and stand to perform work. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms, smell, talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy and the employee may be exposed to extreme weather. The work environment is a general warehouse/distribution environment with MHE operations. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Hearing protection must be worn in designated areas. 
  • Fully enclosed shoes or safety shoes must we worn in designated areas.
  • Safety glasses must be worn in designated areas.
  • Other PPE as required by the company.
