JOB SUMMARY: Directs the Finance Department, which incorporates general accounting, audits, tax returns, accounts receivable, budgeting, and grants & contracts accounting. The Finance Department provides information, primarily financial in nature, about the organization’s activities that will assist management, its stakeholders and others in making educated economic decisions about the organization. Will contribute to the business strategy, financing and operations for the organization as a key member of the senior leadership team. Works closely with the Assistant Vice President of Finance, and is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the areas of accounting, corporate reporting, risk, compliance, finance and treasury.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages the activities of the Finance Department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial Information and reporting.
- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for accounting. This includes oversight of the general ledger, transaction fidelity, Monthly/routine reporting. This includes monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations of the general ledger and bank statement.
- Ensures accurate and timely management of all accounts receivables including aging components, billing, cash receipts, and grant funding
- Assures corporate income tax compliance and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns and taking full advantage of favorable tax codes.
- Manages our budgeting. This includes our annual budget process requiring grant allocations. Oversight of requests for grant budget development.
- Manages audits and fiscal monitoring. This includes our financial and single audits. Oversight of our grant fiscal monitoring’s.
- Responsible for corporate risk management, which include assessment and procurement of insurance coverage.
- Responsible for financial record management and retention.
- Ensures routine staff and corporate financial trainings.
- Participates in special projects and compile a variety of special reports.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
- Manages the accounting department.
- Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Yes
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Seven years of hands-on accounting and managerial experience.
- Non-profit experience preferred.
- Computer skills necessary to maintain accounting records and generate accounting reports.
- Analytical ability and mathematical aptitude to perform accounting/bookkeeping functions of moderate difficulty and conduct research necessary to resolve discrepancies.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with staff in the exchange of information.
- Mental ability to handle pressures related to meeting deadlines and completing tasks requiring concentration and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to occasionally sit in one position for extended periods when working on the computer.
- Adherence to the corporate code of conduct and professional etiquette required.
- Must possess a valid Michigan Driver License and automobile. Must be willing to travel and work a flexible schedule.
- Evening and/or weekend work hours may be occasionally required.
- Some out of state, overnight travel may be required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Must have physical ability to occasionally sit in one position for extended periods of time when data entering information. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend, stand or walk as necessary. Employee must be able to drive for extended periods of time. Employees must occasionally lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, must be able to set up a display area as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. -This job operates in a normal school environment with a noise level, which is at times, moderately loud with little discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust and the like. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
