DevOps Engineer – Security Focus

Description
Our Engineering Department exists at the core of our organization. This analytical and innovative team works diligently to ensure clients’ needs are exceeded through the creation and delivery of transformative technologies.
We are seeking an early-career DevOps Engineer with a focus on security to help protect Bectran’s AWS environment and platform while supporting the broader DevOps team with infrastructure and deployment initiatives. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, highly capable, and committed to continuous learning and professional growth. Relevant experience may come from internships, academic work, or independent projects; however, we place the greatest value on strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability. This individual will proactively research and resolve issues independently, take full ownership of projects as an individual contributor, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
What You Will Do:
- Monitor and triage security alerts from CrowdStrike, Microsoft Defender, and AWS security services, escalating potential incidents as needed.
- Use Datadog to review security logs, investigate unusual activity, and help improve alert quality.
- Track vulnerabilities (CVEs) affecting our technology stack and follow up with engineering teams on fixes.
- Support SOC 2 compliance by gathering audit evidence, maintaining documentation, and verifying security controls.
- Assist with routine security maintenance such as IAM reviews, certificate renewals, and WAF rule updates.
- Support the DevOps team with CI/CD pipelines, deployments, AWS administration, and automation scripting.
Requirements
What You Need to Be Successful:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in IT, DevOps, cloud, or security, including at least one year of hands-on security experience through internships or professional roles.
- Foundational knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, SSL/TLS) and core security concepts.
- Basic Linux and command-line skills, with some scripting in Python or Bash.
- Strong attention to detail, clear communication, and an eagerness to learn.
- Exposure to AWS, CI/CD tools, or certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or AWS Cloud Practitioner is a plus.
