We operate five popular cafes in Marin and have a wholesale production division making flatbread crackers, cookies and crisps in Petaluma. The Shift Lead/Cashier is responsible for efficient, fast-paced work in a high-volume environment. This position requires heavy guest interaction and excellent guest service skills. A positive attitude is required. Shows leadership at all times and models proper behavior for the team while motivating them to get the job done.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Warmly welcomes customers, takes orders and rings up sales. 
• Opening or closing the Café (unlocking or locking, turning equipment on/ off)
• Assigning Tasks and breaks for downline staff
• Ensures staff arrive on time and follow procedures
• Helps Train new team members during the shift
• Handles cash and credit cards with accuracy. Reconciles all cash and currency. 
• Assures the completion of all TOAST transactions and the proper control of all cash according to Company policies and procedures.
• Assists guests in a friendly manner, answering questions about menu choices, handling purchases, exchanges, gift cards, and special orders.
• Responds to and resolves customer concerns or complaints.
• Promotes and recommends menu options to customers.
• Prepares and serves food items such as soups, sandwiches, and pastries.
• Prepares and packages To-Go orders.
• Prepares a variety of hot and cold beverages including coffee drinks.
• Follows procedures of current coffee distributor with an attention to detail. Maintains espresso machines, grinders, coffee machines and other equipment by cleaning, troubleshooting, and reporting any needed repairs to the Cafe Manager.
• Cleans all work areas, guest areas and equipment/tools to maintain a sanitary environment. 
• Stocks shelves in a timely manner as product gets low and maintains a neat and orderly appearance.
• Maintains a thorough knowledge of all Rustic Bakery menu items and recipes; answers guest questions.
• Opens and/or closes the Cafe as scheduled.
• Follows all company policies and procedures.
• Works in a safe manner and follows all safety policies and procedures.
• Cross trains and assists in other areas of the café as needed.
• Steps in to help during busy rushes.
• Other duties as required.
• Monitors inventory levels (cups, milk, syrups, pastries).
• Informs the manager when items are running low.

Requirements

SKILLS

• Must be able to work as a supportive team member      cooperating with peers and managers.
• Brings a “CAN DO ATTITUDE” and      exceptional interpersonal skills to prevent or resolve conflicts.
• Ability to process information/merchandise through computer system and TOAST register. 
• Communicates effectively with EXCELLENT listening and customer service skills. 
• English proficiency required to accurately process orders and payments, communicate allergens, follow food-safety and cash-handling procedures, and respond to customer questions and complaints.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages) a plus
• Ability to learn and use technical equipment (e.g. espresso machine). 
• Strong attention to detail to manage customer requests, accurately ring up sales and exchange currency in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. 
• Willingness to maintain a clean, healthy, and safe working environment. 
• Must be available to work a varied schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Takes direction and follows instruction with attention to detail.

EXPERIENCE

• Experience in food, beverage, retail and customer service. 
• Must provide a Food Handlers Certificate within 30 days of employment.
