Experienced System Engineer

NewPhotonics is an award-winning fabless semiconductor company specializing in advanced silicon photonics and all-optical interconnect solutions for data centers and AI infrastructure.
The company's core technology involves replacing power-hungry digital silicon chips with silicon photonic chips, aiming to improve performance and energy efficiency for AI clusters.
Job Description
We are seeking an Experienced System Engineer to join our core R&D team and play a pivotal role in defining the architecture and technical roadmap of our current and next-generation products.
In this role, you will solve complex, multidisciplinary challenges spanning optics, silicon photonics, high-speed electronics, mechanics, and thermal dissipation.
Leveraging first-principles physics, rigorous simulation models, and hands-on laboratory experimentation, you will architect, evaluate, and deliver robust system-level solutions as a key member of our foundational engineering team.
Requirements
Main Responsibilities
- Translate high-level product targets into cross-domain optical, mechanical, thermal, and control engineering requirements.
- Design, model, and optimize electro-optic subsystems using numerical simulations and first-principles analytical methods.
- Architect and build specialized optical bench setups, calibration stations, and alignment tools.
- Lead end-to-end integration, stabilization, and bring-up of photonic IC engines across electrical, optical, and mechanical boundaries.
- Plan and run rigorous optical characterization campaigns to validate link margins and model accuracy.
- Identify and resolve sources of instability, thermal drift, alignment errors, and signal degradation.
- Spearhead root-cause analysis of complex system failures and drive product maturation toward high-volume manufacturing.
Qualifications & Requirements
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
- 5+ years of multidisciplinary systems engineering experience spanning photonics, electronics, and optics.
- Proven background taking complex electro-optical hardware across the full product lifecycle—from early proof-of-concept through integration and volume transfer.
- Hands-on laboratory mastery in test setups and system-level validation.
- Track record of designing and validating optical systems using numerical modeling and simulation tools.
- Advanced Python scripting capabilities for test automation, closed-loop calibration routines, and data analysis.
- Fluent communication skills (spoken and written) in Hebrew and English.
Star Candidate Advantages
- Applied or academic research background in lasers, nonlinear optics, photonics, or experimental physics.
- End-to-end expertise across the electro-optical stack: optics, mechanical packaging, thermal management, electronics, and control systems.
- Proven success in a high-velocity deep-tech startup driving hardware from early R&D to factory transfer and production readiness.
