About the Role

POSITION SUMMARY

The Industrial Firefighter/EMT provides assigned fire suppression, emergency medical, fire alarm investigation, prevention support, hazardous materials initial response, and other emergency services at the Panasonic industrial facility in accordance with RMF policies and the approved site emergency response plan. Working under the direction of a Fire Captain or designated officer, the Firefighter/EMT maintains response readiness through training, hazard familiarization, equipment care, safe teamwork, and accurate reporting.

Emergency response and patient care

  • Respond promptly and safely to fire alarms, fires, medical calls, hazardous materials incidents, and other authorized emergencies; follow incident command, communications, accountability, and safety procedures.
  • Perform fire suppression and rescue support tasks consistent with assignment, certification, available resources, and the site response plan; recognize hazards and withdraw or request assistance when conditions exceed authorized capabilities.
  • Provide emergency medical care at the Kansas EMT level under current medical oversight, approved protocols, and RMF procedures; prepare timely, accurate, and confidential patient care reports.
  • Operate assigned tools, hose lines, ladders, extinguishers, radios, monitors, PPE, SCBA, and other equipment only after appropriate training and authorization; drive or operate apparatus only when separately qualified and assigned.

Daily readiness and station responsibilities

  • Inspect assigned PPE, SCBA, apparatus, medical supplies, tools, communication and detection equipment; document checks and promptly notify the officer of missing, damaged, or inoperative items.
  • Help maintain apparatus, station, equipment, inventory, and client-provided facilities in clean, safe, ready-to-use condition; complete assigned inventory and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Complete incident, training, equipment, daily unit activity, ICS 214, and other records as directed; maintain professional radio and written communications.
  • Follow shift assignments, participate fully as a fire-company member, assist teammates, and support relief/handoff procedures that preserve response coverage.

Training, facility familiarization and prevention

  • Complete documented ongoing fire, EMS, HazMat, safety, and industrial response training and demonstrate proficiency in skills required for assigned response duties.
  • Become familiar with facility roads, building access, hazards, hydrants, water supplies, suppression and detection systems, emergency plans, evacuation routes, and incident reporting arrangements.
  • Recognize battery manufacturing/storage hazards, thermal runaway indicators, energized equipment, chemical hazards, and site-specific risk controls as applicable; operate within training and tactical guidance.
  • Assist with emergency drills, fire prevention education, pre-incident planning, inspections, and after-action reviews as directed by the officer and within assigned authority.

Teamwork and professional conduct

  • Follow orders of the designated officer, RMF policies, site rules, patient privacy expectations, and professional standards; report unsafe practices, injuries, incidents, and qualification gaps promptly.
  • Exercise sound situational awareness, teamwork, risk-based judgment, and respect toward coworkers, facility employees, contractors, medical patients, and the public.
  • May perform limited acting-leader or training-assistant duties only when expressly designated, trained, and supervised; the regular position does not carry independent disciplinary or scheduling authority.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 21 years of age and high school diploma or GED.
  • At least three years of fire service experience, or an RMF-approved equivalent pathway if separately authorized by the client.
  • Firefighter I and Firefighter II certification (NFPA 1010 or recognized legacy NFPA 1001 equivalent), issued or recognized by a state or accepted credentialing body.
  • Hazardous Materials Operations qualification under NFPA 470 or a recognized predecessor credential.
  • Current Kansas EMT certification, or documented eligibility and ability to obtain it before providing independent EMS care; current AHA BLS/CPR/AED or RMF-approved equivalent.
  • NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 training or RMF-accepted equivalent; complete assigned RMF/site onboarding, emergency response procedures, and training before performing operational duties.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; complete background screening, position-related physical ability testing, medical evaluation, and respiratory protection clearance as applicable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Apparatus driver/operator qualification; HazMat Technician; Confined Space Rescue Technician; Rope Rescue Technician; or other specialty credentials when those functions are part of the approved site response plan.
  • Industrial fire brigade training or experience at high-hazard industrial/battery manufacturing facilities.
  • Additional fire inspector, fire instructor, incident safety, or emergency medical education relevant to assigned responsibilities.

PHYSICAL, SAFETY & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work in hazardous emergency scenes where conditions can include heat, smoke, weather exposure, noise, reduced visibility, rough terrain, confined areas, and elevated work when qualified and assigned.
  • Perform physically demanding duties, including carrying equipment, pulling hose, climbing stairs or ladders, and assisting with rescue activities, with or without reasonable accommodation, and subject to appropriate medical clearance and training.
  • Operate PPE and respirators only while medically cleared, properly fit tested, trained, and authorized for the activity.

EMPLOYMENT & OPERATIONAL CONDITIONS

  • Full-time hourly position. Standard shifts are expected to be 12 hours and may rotate between days and nights; weekends, holidays, overtime, schedule changes, and occasional training travel may be required.
  • Safety-sensitive position subject to RMF and applicable client drug and alcohol policy, screening and site access requirements as permitted by law.

CREDENTIALS & SCOPE CLARIFICATION

Advanced HazMat mitigation, technical rescue, confined-space entry, rope rescue, and specialty apparatus operation are outside baseline Firefighter/EMT expectations unless the individual is appropriately trained, equipped, and specifically authorized under the site response plan. National Registry or out-of-state EMT status alone does not replace Kansas authorization to provide care. Valid legacy certifications may be accepted upon RMF review.

POSITION DESCRIPTION NOTICE  This description summarizes essential responsibilities and is not an employment contract. Duties may evolve under RMF policy, site emergency response plans, client-approved scope of work, and applicable law. Reasonable accommodations will be considered in accordance with applicable law.
