About the Role

Vertical Transport Engineer | Building Services

The Opportunity

WSP is looking for a Vertical Transport Engineer to join our Building Services team.

This is an opportunity to build your career within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, working across a diverse portfolio of building and infrastructure projects. You’ll contribute to the design, specification and delivery of vertical transportation systems, including lifts, escalators and moving walks, while working alongside experienced engineers and specialists across WSP.

Whether you already have consulting experience or have developed your technical knowledge within the lift industry and are looking to move into engineering consultancy, we’re interested in hearing from you.

What you’ll do

As part of our Building Services team, you’ll:

  • Deliver vertical transport engineering and design across a range of building and infrastructure projects.
  • Undertake passenger traffic analysis and lift simulation modelling using Elevate or equivalent software.
  • Develop lift, escalator and moving walk designs, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Conduct site inspections, condition assessments and performance reviews of existing vertical transport systems.
  • Support asset management, refurbishment, modernisation and upgrade projects.
  • Work closely with architects, developers, contractors, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop coordinated solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications and design documentation in accordance with relevant Australian Standards, codes and client requirements.
  • Contribute to technical reviews, design coordination and project delivery, taking increasing ownership of projects as your experience develops.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders and contribute to WSP’s growing Vertical Transport capability.

About you

We’re looking for someone with a strong interest in Vertical Transport and the technical curiosity to continue developing within the discipline.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Qualifications in electrical, mechanical, mechatronic, building services engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
  • Experience or exposure to lifts, escalators, moving walks or associated vertical transport systems.
  • Experience in engineering consultancy, lift design, lift contracting, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, modernisation or technical services would all be relevant.
  • An understanding of vertical transport design, specification, coordination and technical review.
  • Experience with passenger traffic analysis or lift simulation software such as Elevate would be advantageous.
  • The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary Building Services project teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, NCC requirements and industry guidance, or the ability to develop this knowledge.
  • Progress toward professional accreditation with Engineers Australia, including Chartered status, would be highly regarded.

Experience with organisations or industry groups such as LESA or CIBSE Lifts Group would also be valued, but isn’t essential.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who wants to develop genuine technical depth in Vertical Transport and build a long-term career within the discipline.

Imagine a better future for you and a better future for us all

Join WSP and you’ll be part of a global professional services business where you can work alongside specialists across Building Services and the wider property and buildings sector.

You’ll have the opportunity to work on complex projects, collaborate across disciplines and locations, and continue developing your technical and client-facing capabilities within a supportive engineering environment.

If you don’t meet every requirement but have relevant experience from the lift industry, Building Services or a related engineering discipline, we still encourage you to apply. We recognise that great Vertical Transport engineers can come from a range of technical and professional backgrounds.

Imagine a better future for us all, and a better future for you.

Apply today and be part of WSP’s Building Services team.
