About the Role
Let’s build the fossil-free future
Are you ready to save the planet? At Greenlyte, we are reshaping the global fuel economy with our novel, IP-protected, direct air capture to fuels technology, which shows superior economic potential compared to existing approaches, even reaching fossil prices. Backed by leading European VCs and with commercial agreement from Lufthansa and MB Energy, we are deploying our first commercial facilities to prove commercial viability in the next 12 months.
How you'll contribute
You join our CO₂ desorption team, which scales up an electrolyzer that releases captured CO₂ and explores how to turn it into valuable products. This is a junior role with real responsibility. You don’t need to have it all figured out from day one. You get close support, room to learn, and the trust to grow into ownership quickly.- Grow into ownership of a technical workstream, such as electrode development, material screening, or CO₂ utilization performance.
- Design, run, and iterate on electrochemical experiments for our desorption electrolyzer and CO₂ conversion.
- Take care of one or more electrochemical test stands, from cell assembly to troubleshooting and protocol improvement.
- Analyze data, question assumptions, and turn findings into clear next-step proposals.
- Step by step, take on guiding our working students as you build confidence in the lab.
- Join technical discussions with suppliers, research institutes, and customers, supported by experienced colleagues.
- Work with modeling, systems, and process engineering to connect lab results to scale-up decisions.
- Help keep the lab safe, organized, and well documented.
Month 1–3: Land and learn
- Get to know the team, our culture, and the fundamentals of our technology and lab setup.
- Learn our safety standards, documentation practices, and core analytical techniques.
- Take over a test stand and run first experiments with guidance.
- Run standard electrochemical test protocols independently and analyze the results.
- Propose and run your own experiments based on your findings.
- Start onboarding and supporting working students.
- Own a technical workstream with measurable milestones.
- Lead the day-to-day supervision of working students.
- Represent the team in technical exchanges with external partners.
- Share your view on the roadmap: where should we go next, and why?
About you
Must-have- Master’s degree or PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, focused on electrochemistry.
- 0–3 years of experience, e.g. through a PhD, thesis, internship, or first job.
- Solid knowledge of electrochemistry and its role in climate solutions.
- Hands-on lab experience, ideally with electrode or catalyst preparation or electrochemical test setups.
- A curious mind that questions the status quo and brings its own ideas.
- Willingness to take ownership, make decisions, and learn from mistakes along the way.
- A structured approach and a strong eye for detail.
- Fluent German and English, written and spoken.
- Research experience in CO₂ electroreduction, electrolyzers, or membrane and electrode technologies.
- Experience with data analysis and structured experiment design, e.g. DoE or Python.
- First experience guiding or mentoring students or interns.
- Publications or patents in a relevant field.
- Interest in CO₂ utilization and scale-up.
What we offer
- A role with real ownership, where you shape your workstream and grow into more responsibility.
- Close support from experienced colleagues while you find your footing.
- Direct influence on technical direction in a deeptech company building its first commercial plants.
- Founders who invest time in building a healthy and sustainable organization.
- Open and transparent communication on company development.
- 30 days of vacation plus public holidays.
Noteworthy points
- Working time: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Location: This role is onsite in Essen and cannot be done remotely. You should live within commuting distance of Essen.
- Relocation: We support you with relocation if you are moving to the Essen area.
