Forklift Operator *Swing Shift**

Job Summary:

The Forklift Operator / Shop Laborer is responsible for safely operating forklifts to load and unload trucks and trailers, transport steel materials, and assist with daily shop operations. This position requires experience operating forklifts, the ability to safely handle heavy steel materials, and a willingness to perform general labor duties as needed. The employee must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced steel fabrication environment while maintaining a safe and organized work area.

The swing shift will be from 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Safely operate forklifts to load and unload steel materials from trucks and trailers.
• Transport, stack, and organize steel materials throughout the shop and yard.
• Properly position and secure materials during loading and unloading to prevent damage or injury.
• Assist with preparing materials and orders for shipment.
• Verify materials and quantities to ensure accurate loading and unloading.
• Perform general labor duties, including moving materials, cleaning work areas, and assisting shop personnel with daily operations.
• Assist with handling, sorting, and organizing steel products and supplies.
• Conduct daily forklift inspections and report any equipment damage or maintenance concerns.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and yard.
• Follow all company safety procedures and applicable OSHA guidelines.
• Work cooperatively with shop personnel, drivers, and supervisors to ensure efficient operations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

• Experience operating forklifts, preferably in a steel fabrication, warehouse, or industrial environment.
• Ability to safely load and unload flatbed trucks and trailers.
• Knowledge of proper material handling and safe forklift operating procedures.
• Ability to handle heavy and oversized steel materials safely.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with industrial equipment.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and organizational skills.
• Willingness to perform physically demanding general labor duties.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous forklift operating experience required.
• Experience working in a steel shop, fabrication facility, or industrial yard preferred.
• Forklift certification preferred; must complete required operator training and evaluation before operating equipment.

Physical Requirements:

• Standing and walking for prolonged periods.
• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
• Frequent bending, crouching, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
• Ability to climb on and off equipment safely.
• Good hand-eye coordination and awareness of surroundings.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks and general labor duties.
