About the Role

Who are we and what we stand for?

Schneider Electric's purpose is to create Impact by empowering all to make the most of our energy and resources, bridging progress and sustainability for all.

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Application Engineer to join our Centre of Excellence (CoE) and lead the design, validation, and execution of advanced industrial automation solutions across the MEA Zone, with EcoStruxure Automation Expert (EAE) at the core.

This position will act as a technical leader for customers, partners, sales teams, Solution Architects, and Global Delivery teams across the complete application lifecycle, from technical discovery and architecture definition through project execution, commissioning support, troubleshooting, and optimization.

The role requires broad multi-vendor automation expertise across Schneider Electric, Siemens, and Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley PLC platforms, together with experience in AVEVA and other SCADA/HMI systems. The Senior Application Engineer will lead complex migrations, integration strategies, technical governance, and the development of reusable engineering standards while mentoring junior engineers and partners.

What will you do?

  • Cooperate with Sales and Solution Architects with technical strategy, application architecture, competitive differentiation, demonstrations, and solution validation to win complex automation opportunities using EAE.
  • Lead technical discovery with customers, OEMs, System Integrators, and end users; translate machine, process, plant, and business requirements into scalable control, HMI/SCADA, networking, safety-aware, and IT/OT architectures.
  • Own the technical execution of indirect projects with Schneider Electric partners and coordinate direct projects with Global Delivery teams across the MEA Zone, including scope, design reviews, risk management, validation, escalation, and technical acceptance.
  • Design, review, and optimize multi-vendor automation architectures involving Schneider Electric Modicon platforms and EAE, and migration from Siemens SIMATIC/TIA Portal, and Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 platforms.
  • Lead SCADA/HMI architecture, integration, and migration activities using AVEVA System Platform, AVEVA Plant SCADA, AVEVA Edge, EcoStruxure Operator Terminal Expert, and comparable third-party SCADA platforms where required.
  • Lead competitor migration assessments from Siemens, Allen-Bradley, and other legacy PLC/SCADA platforms to Schneider Electric and EAE, including code analysis, I/O and communication mapping, functional conversion, testing, and risk mitigation.
  • Conduct design audits, application assessments, Factory Acceptance Tests, performance validation, and troubleshooting for mission-critical or large-scale automation projects.
  • Define and govern engineering standards, reusable libraries, CATs, templates, APIs, simulation/test methods, and documentation that reduce engineering effort and improve quality, scalability, and lifecycle maintainability.
  • Lead customer workshops, roadmap discussions, POCs, demos, and technical presentations; clearly communicate architecture decisions, risks, trade-offs, and business value to technical and management stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and partners, review technical deliverables, and collaborate with the Global Teams and Lines of Business (LoB) to resolve complex application gaps and scale proven solutions.

What are the key skills we are looking for?

  • Industrial Automation Architecture & Technical Leadership - advanced level; leading the design and delivery of complex machine, process, and plant automation solutions, including control architecture, sequence design, system integration, validation, commissioning, and lifecycle support.
  • Multi-Vendor PLC Engineering - advanced level; hands-on expertise with Schneider Electric Modicon PLCs and EAE, plus strong experience with Siemens SIMATIC/TIA Portal and Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 for design, troubleshooting, integration, and migration.
  • SCADA, HMI & Supervisory Systems - advanced level; designing and integrating AVEVA System Platform, AVEVA Plant SCADA, AVEVA Edge, EcoStruxure Operator Terminal Expert, and comparable SCADA/HMI platforms, including alarms, trends, historian interfaces, redundancy, and high availability.
  • Control Standards & Software-Defined Automation - advanced level; applying IEC 61131-3 and IEC 61499 principles, reusable software architectures, object-oriented methods, libraries, and engineering standards to industrial applications.
  • Industrial Networking & IT/OT Integration - advanced level; designing and troubleshooting LAN, WAN, VLAN, managed switching, routing, redundancy, remote access, virtualization, and protocols including Modbus TCP, OPC UA, MQTT, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET.
  • System Integration, APIs & Data Connectivity - intermediate to advanced level; integrating PLC, SCADA, MES, historians, databases, edge/cloud platforms, and external services using APIs, OPC UA, MQTT, SQL, and secure integration patterns.
  • Technical Project Leadership & Governance - advanced level; owning technical scope, architecture decisions, design reviews, risks, FAT/SAT readiness, acceptance criteria, escalation, quality, and coordination across partners and delivery teams.
  • Customer Leadership, Mentoring & Communication - advanced level; leading workshops and technical negotiations, simplifying complex concepts for technical and business audiences, mentoring engineers, influencing stakeholders, and building customer confidence.

What qualifications will make you successful?

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Automation and Control Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in industrial automation, control systems, application engineering, system integration, or project execution, including technical leadership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and deploying medium- to large-scale automation solutions for machines, plants, or infrastructure applications.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Schneider Electric Modicon/EAE and at least one major third-party ecosystem: Siemens SIMATIC/TIA Portal or Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley Studio 5000.
  • Strong SCADA/HMI experience with AVEVA System Platform, AVEVA Plant SCADA, AVEVA Edge, EcoStruxure Operator Terminal Expert, or comparable platforms such as Siemens WinCC or Rockwell FactoryTalk View.
  • Proven experience in PLC/SCADA migration, industrial networking, OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, virtualization, and IT/OT integration.
  • Experience leading technical workshops, architecture reviews, FAT/SAT preparation, troubleshooting, commissioning support, and project execution with customers and partners.
  • Programming or scripting experience in C#, C++, Python, JavaScript, SQL, or similar languages is advantageous for integration, tooling, test automation, and data connectivity.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; Arabic or French is an advantage for regional customer and partner engagement.
  • Strong leadership, structured problem solving, decision making, stakeholder influence, mentoring, and communication skills.
