About the Role
Are you passionate about shaping the future of national security in space? Lunar Outpost , an industry leader in space systems throughout the Earth Moon system is seeking a Business Development Engineer focused on U.S. Department of Defense space programs to help expand our company’s impact in establishing United States space capabilities. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, customer engagement, proposal development and capture management , driving new business for Lunar Outpost across U.S. Space Force, Space Development Agency, Missile Defense Agency, and related DoD organizations. You will help position Lunar Outpost’s spacecraft systems, autonomy software, and mission operations platforms for next-generation national security space missions .

Key Responsibilities:
Capture & Proposal Leadership:
Lead and support capture efforts to secure new contracts, recompete existing contracts, and maintain positive business relationships. This includes writing proposals and submitting bids to the DoD and private companies to secure new contracts and partnerships related to DoD space programs.
Analyze solicitations (RFPs, RFIs, BAAs, OTAs) and translate customer requirements into compliant, technically differentiated proposals
Develop win strategies and competitive positioning aligned to mission needs and customer priorities
Customer Engagement & Market Development:
Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across USSF, SDA, MDA, SSC, and other agencies
Shape opportunities by engaging DoD program offices to refine requirements and identify future needs
Track and analyze DoD space programs, budgets, and acquisition pathways (IDIQs, OTAs, SBIR/STTR)
Engage with industry partners and internal personnel to enhance the probability of capture success
Support pipeline development and qualification of opportunities aligned with Lunar Outpost’s strategy
Represent Lunar Outpost at conferences, industry days, and customer engagements to evangelize technical capabilities
Technical Solution Development:
Perform end-to-end engineering work for small research and development programs as they relate to capture efforts
Contribute as a technical lead during capture and proposal development - developing architectures, concepts of operations, and system trade studies.
Cross-Functional Leadership:
Coordinate across engineering, program management and BD to deliver compelling and executable proposals
Drive disciplined capture processes - own or contribute to proposal volumes (technical, management, cost) and coordinate color team reviews, schedules, and compliance
Strategy & Growth:
Identify adjacent markets and follow-on opportunities to expand Lunar Outpost’s presence in national security space
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM field
4+ years of experience in DoD business development, capture, or proposal engineering (Aerospace or DoD field)
Demonstrated experience supporting or leading proposals and capture efforts for U.S. Government contracts
Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes and regulations (FAR/DFARS)
Strong technical background in spacecraft systems or mission operations (hardware and/or software)
Ability to translate complex technical solutions into clear, compelling proposal content
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; highly organized and deadline-driven
Self-starter capable of operating in a fast-paced, startup environment
U.S. Person (ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance)
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of space mission areas such as:
Missile warning / missile tracking
Space domain awareness
Proliferated LEO constellations
Space battle management / C2 architectures
Cislunar space operations
Existing network within DoD space community (government, FFRDCs, primes)
Experience with CRM/pipeline tools (e.g., GovWin)
Compensation & Benefits: Compensation level and base salary are competitively structured and thoughtfully determined based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, education, and the scope of the role.
